First-class debutants Abhinav Tejrana and Ayush Doseja scored double hundreds within hours of each other in the opening round of the 2025/26 Ranji Trophy.
At Porvorim, Goa are eyeing on a big total against Chandigarh. The visitors did reduce them to 115-3 before debutant Tejrana and Lalit Yadav put on 309 for the fourth wicket. Tejrana eventually fell for a 320-ball 205 with 21 fours and four sixes, the first double ton by a Goa batter on first-class debut. At the time of writing, Goa were 478-5 with Lalit (160) and Darshan Misal (21) at the crease.
At Hyderabad, meanwhile, Delhi are amassing runs against the hosts with comparable intensity. They became 24-2 before captain Ayush Badoni hit a 72-ball 53 as opener Sanat Sangwan dropped anchor at one end. Doseja then came out and smashed a 279-ball 209 with 25 fours and five sixes – the first time a Delhi debutant hit a double hundred. Delhi were 438-4 with Sangwan (147) and Anuj Rawat (2) at the crease at the time of writing.

Tejrana and Doseja became the 26th and 27th batters to score double hundreds on first-class debut. Fifteen of these have come in the Ranji Trophy. What makes the count even more astonishing is the fact that the first six instances were all outside India.
October 16, 2025 was also the third day that two first-class debutants scored double hundreds: the previous instances were December 7, 2018 (Ajay Rohera and Mayank Raghav) and February 18, 2022 (Sakibul Gani and Pavan Shah). For details, see the table below.
