(ABC 6 News) — A staple of the Rochester sports scene is planning on hanging up his hat and calling it a career.
Ed Hruska, the leader of the Rochester Sports Foundation since 2019, and a big part in the city’s amateur sports since 1999, will be retiring after this year.
With the help of Hruska, Rochester was named the National Sports Commission of the Year in both 2010 and 2015, helping build signature competitions that are now staples on the sports calendar for southeast Minnesota.
Despite the accolades, Hruska says it was all a team effort.
“People talk about legacy, and I’m not sure that’s what it is. Over the years, I always found myself being surrounded by wonderful people, being my board members, or the staff that I worked with, and I think that’s the key to success. You’ve got to build a great team,” Hruska said.
After his retirement, Hruska says he is looking forward to slowing down a bit and enjoying life in Lake City.
