On Friday, the title round of the 2022 Mubadala World Tennis Championship will begin, and it will feature a matchup between Emma Raducanu and Ons Jabeur.
After winning her first Grand Slam title the previous year, everyone had extremely high expectations for Raducanu, but she was unable to live up to them. But despite encountering many obstacles along the way, the young British man continued to attempt. Her progress was hampered by recurring injuries, but she was able to get back into the game with very little downtime.
The eventual winner of the 2021 US Open made her debut in the top 10 rankings earlier this year, reaching her highest position of No. 10 at one point. Her run to the semifinals of the Korea Open was her finest performance of the current campaign. The young woman, who was just 20 years old, was performing admirably until she suffered an injury in the middle of the match, which caused her to be forced to retire.
Emma Raducanu also advanced to the quarterfinals of a handful tennis tournaments, during which she achieved important victories over Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka. As a result of a wrist injury, she had to call an early end to her season.
This year, Jabeur had the best season of his professional career. She made it all the way to the final of her first Grand Slam tournament at Wimbledon, and then she did it again in the US Open. Unfortunately, on both occasions, she was defeated by a player who was superior to her, falling to Elena Rybakina and Iga Swiatek, respectively.
There were still many bright spots in Jabeur’s life to which he could look back with satisfaction. She was successful in winning two titles, one of which was at the WTA 1000 level, and she also competed in a couple of other finals. Due to her impressive run of form, she was able to qualify for her first-ever WTA Finals, where she was eliminated in the group stage. The consistency shown by the Tunisian throughout the year contributed to her finishing the year ranked in second place.
After a tough year of competition, both athletes will be refreshed and ready to continue after having adequate time to recover. They will be excited to get their preparations off to a good start in anticipation of the 2023 season, which will begin in a matter of months.
