The weather has brought play to a halt at The Oval but why isn't cricket played in the rain?
BBC Sport's Ask Me Anything team have been on the case and you can find the answer here.
Thanks Matt.
The plan is for play to resume after lunch at 13:32 but given how damp it looks at The Oval, that might be a bit ambitious.
The groundstaff are still battling the elements to protect the playing area as the players tuck into their lunch. I'm going to do the same.

England are missing a bit of pace. There's been a bit of swing when you get it nice and full.
But it's looking like India are settled and in there now, so it might take a bit more than expected.

That is officially lunch, by the way.
It has probably come at a decent time for England who were just drifting towards the break amid a mix of half-trackers and glares at footholes.
It's pretty even but England could have had a few more had they bowled better.
Kumar Dharmasena wasn't hanging around. He beat one or two of the England fielders in getting off the field.
The pitch and outfield is getting pretty wet here, despite the best efforts of the groundstaff.Ebony Rainford-Brent

The rain has gone from 0 to 1000. It's all gone manic here.
Where has this come from?!

Gill hits Overton delivery off the back foot for four through cover
In Test history, only two visiting batters have scored four centuries in a series in England: Sir Don Bradman (1930) and Shubman Gill (2025).

Gill pulls Overton delivery away to deep square leg for four
Far too friendly from Jamie Overton. 80mph and halfway down.
Shubman Gill looks like he could swig on an energy drink in between seeing the ball leave Overton's hand and slapping it for four.
This is the shot of the day from Sai Sudharsan.
Chris Woakes pushes it full in search of nip and the compact left-hander just times the ball back past his bootlaces.
The switched-on reader may be aware he played briefly for Surrey last season and the season before.Ebony Rainford-Brent

One thing Shubman Gill is doing really well is playing within himself. He's keeping it contained like he did in that final innings up at Old Trafford.
He's building slowly but rebuilding nicely.

England are without Mark Wood, Jofra Archer and Brydon Carse here. A fully fit Olly Stone is probably above Jamie Overton in the pecking order too. Of course they'd love to go back to the days of peak James Anderson and Stuart Broad.
As I say that, Overton drops short and wide to Shubman Gill for the second time in as many overs. This one is punished in the same way as the last.

The only reason England won’t win this series is because of the serious lack of bowling depth. Only word class bowler in this lineup is Atkinson and the rest are just bowling hoping to pick up wickets without a series plan. If England had a well rounded attack like two-three years ago on this pitch they would have India 40-4. The lack of discipline is also clear with Tongue’s bowling.

Sai Sudharsan is one of those annoying batters that looks like he's playing a shot but really is leaving it by playing well inside the line. He's surviving nicely.Ebony Rainford-Brent

It feels like a strange game. It feels like it's two different teams playing each other with so many injuries from the last Test. But it is crucial.
KL Rahul will be disappointed with this shot, I reckon.

Ah that's the one Jamie Overton is after – that bounces and swings away from Gill. It beats the edge rather than taking it but England will be enthused.

Gill hits Overton delivery off the back foot for four through cover
It's Jamie Overton's turn to look grumpily at the footholes at the Vauxhall End.
After another very wide wide, a long hop is timed through the covers by Shubman Gill as the India skipper collects his first boundary.

If the rest of this back and forth series is anything to go by, I'll see you all at 175-2.
