You can see her thinking. Verma is going to keep coming harder and harder so Em Arlott is taking her pace off.
The slower ball's coming in, she's tried the bouncer. But the execution has been fractionally off and Shafali Verma has capitalised.
Verma is not a good footwork player. She's a hand-eye bully.
Three singles in a row to end Em Arlott's over.
One more over of powerplay to go.

It's interesting to see Em Arlott already using her variations in the powerplay.
Em Arlott is back into the attack and she tests Shafali Verma with a short ball.
The India batter tries to hook but skews an outside edge and the ball runs away to the boundary very fine.
Things are looking up for England so far in Edgbaston.

See ball, hit ball. Shafali Verma's given herself room. She allowed herself to set that base and then flat bats it.
England will be hoping she runs past one or just miscues.
Though two of her partners are back in the dugout, Shafali Verma is showing no signs of slowing down.
She welcomes new bowler Sophie Ecclestone by sending her over mid-off and then repeats it in the very next ball.
But Ecclestone recovers well and only two more singles come off that rest of the over.

England will want one more here. If you get three wickets in the powerplay, you really improve your chances.
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur is out there in the middle now.
The tourists are in a spot of bother here – not something they have experienced during this tour so far.

That was definitely a hot yoga kind of lunge from Jemimah Rodrigues.
    Rodrigues b Smith 1 (Ind 19-2)
    It gets better for England!
Linsey Smith into the attack for England and Jemimah Rodrigues thinks she has width to play her when there simply isn't any.
Smith's delivery pitches and rattles straight into the middle and off stumps.
Shafali Varma brings Issy Wong's first over to a conclusion with another four.
The ball was up in the air for a while but lands safe and rolls away to the boundary.
Meanwhile, Jemimah Rodrigues, the new batter in, also opened her account with a quick single during that over.
But Shafali Verma reminds England she is still in business here.
The India batter was in fine form to power India to a solid position during the early overs in Manchester earlier this week and gets off the mark by chipping Issy Wong to the boundary.
It goes one bounce over the rope.

Credit to the gameplan. By coming round the wicket, you could see Smriti Mandhana was trying to give herself room and got tucked up by the short ball.
A really smart wicket for England and Em Arlott.
    Mandhana c Smith b Arlott 8 (Ind 8-1)
    What a start for England!
Em Arlott gets the wicket of the dangerous Smriti Mandhana.
The India opener tries to make room with her foot and tries to clear the ring, but only manages to drill one straight into the hands of Linsey Smith.

Two dot balls to get things under way from Em Arlott.
But Smriti Mandhana then gets into the groove with back-to-back boundaries – first smoking one over mid-on and then pulling the next one to the fence.

England have lost the series but momentum is always important, especially ahead of an important ODI series.
England fast bowler Em Arlott will open the bowling.
And Smriti Mandhana defends the first delivery of this fifth and final T20 straight back to Arlott.
The players are out in the middle at Edgbaston.
The sun is still shining in Birmingham and it's a perfect evening for some more cricket!

England all-rounder Alice Capsey, who does not feature today, has set herself the goal of becoming the "best batter in the world".
The 20-year-old has been a regular fixture in England's white-ball sides since making her debut in July 2022, playing 26 ODIs and 45 T20s, registering four half-centuries in the shorter format.
However, she has posted single-figure scores eight times in 13 T20s over the past year.
"Over the last year to now, I haven't performed how I would have liked," said Capsey.
"I want to be the best batter in the world. Any player who's playing international cricket will want to strive to be the best."
Capsey also admitted England's fielding has "not been good enough over the last 12 months."
"Our fielding has been a big talking point. We haven't been good enough over the last 12 months and again this series. Everyone holds their hands up to that," said Capsey.
