Ex-ENG Player's Stunning Take On Akash Deep: 'Tears Will Fall, He'll Leave Scars' – News18

Former England player David Lloyd quoted Adele’s popular song Rolling in the Deep to explain the impact Indian pacer Akash Deep had on Ben Stokes’ side in the Edgbaston Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Lloyd said England will ‘wish they’d never met’ the 28-year-old, for he has left them with tears and ‘scars’ that’d carry on to the third Test of the series at Lord’s, which begins on July 10.
Akash Deep took 10 wickets across the two innings of the Test, becoming only the second Indian to do so in England. He came to the Test as a replacement for the rested Jasprit Bumrah, which made many underestimate him and the team, but his fabulous spells helped India to seal the win by 336 runs and level the series 1-1.
“Send for Adele! England were rolling in the deep in this match. When they almost had it all, Akash came along and they wish they’d never met him. Tears are gonna fall and he will leave scars to remind them… When they get to Lord’s, that is," Lloyd wrote in his column for the Daily Mail.
On a more serious note, Lloyd reported that the English team was unhappy with the Edgbaston pitch, feeling that the curators had taken off ‘too much grass’ from it, which helped the visiting contingent.
“There are rumblings from the England camp that too much grass was taken off an Edgbaston pitch from which India’s pacers extracted more movement than their counterparts," he said. “The India bowlers are generally shorter in stature and their deliveries just kiss the surface, as opposed to England’s taller men who hit the pitch hard. It’s slow nature nullified their pace."

He also warned the hosts for their batting troubles and the pending return of Bumrah at Lord’s.
“No time to panic, but a stiff drink is in order," Lloyd said. “A no-show from five of England’s top six against an India attack minus the best fast bowler in the world is cause for concern. It seems we have to put up with Zak Crawley’s inconsistency come what may, while Ollie Pope reverted to his frenetic style. A quiet game for Joe Root is a rarity. Be warned. Jasprit Bumrah will be back at Lord’s and India are no pushovers."
