Five local relay teams will be joined by 22 individual athletes looking for medals at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association track and field championships Friday and Saturday at Middletown High School.
Silver Creek/Forestville and Randolph boast No. 1 seeds in the Class C boys competition in Orange County while Southwestern and Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton have top seeds in Class C girls competition.
Also, three girls and a boy will be double dipping by attempting to win a pair of events.
Black Knights junior Nathan Mays is the No. 1 seed in the pentathlon after accumulating 3,381 points at last week’s Section VI state qualifier. His total is 60 points more than second-seeded Beckett Holmes of Oneonta.
Cardinals senior Caden Inkley is the top seed in the Class C pole vault at 15 feet, 3 inches. Inkley finished seventh in Division 2 a year ago at 13 feet, 6 inches. His top competition this year figures to be Tioga’s Gavin Albrecht, who qualified at 14 feet, 9 inches.

Trojans sophomore Emma Lewis is the No. 1 seed in the Class C 800 meters with a time of 2:13.18. Riverdale’s Vivian Ostfeld is the No. 2 seed at 2:13.51. Lewis is also the No. 2 seed in the 2,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 6:58.42. Tri-Valley’s Anna Furman is the No. 1 seed at 6:50.07. Last year, Lewis finished third in the steeplechase at the state meet.
Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton senior Jada Cole is the No. 1 seed in the high jump at 5-7. Cole finished second in Division 2 last year with a leap of 5 feet, 5 inches, an inch behind the winner.
Maple Grove junior Ethan Verbosky finds himself seeded second for a pair of events. In the 800 meters, his time of 1:52.67 is just over a second behind Poly Prep’s Kofi Rossi (1:51.36). West Valley senior Jack Tharnish is seeded sixth (1:57.30). Last year, Verbosky took third in Division 2 with a time of 1:56.968. In the 1,600 meters, Verbosky’s time of 4:17.25 is more than 5 seconds behind that of Tri-Valley senior Van Furman (4:11.31).
Southwestern junior thrower Mikayla Johnson finds herself seeded highly in both of her events. In the shot put, Johnson is seeded third at 40 feet, 8.25 inches while Wellsville senior Kaylee Oswald is the top seed at 42 feet, 7 inches. Johnson was 11th in Division 2 last year. In the discus, Johnson is seeded fourth at 126 feet, 7 inches and Franklinville/Ellicottville senior Elizabeth Price is seeded eighth. The top Class C seed in the discus is Tapestry senior Nyla Wilson-Epps at 150 feet, 10 inches.
Frewsburg senior sprinter Grace Lennon also qualified for a pair of events. She is tied for the sixth seed in the 200-meter dash at 25.36 seconds while Southwestern sophomore Marlana Cresanti is seeded ninth (25.41). The No. 1 seed is Rye Country Day freshman Payton Richardson at 24.45 seconds.

In the 100-meter dash, Lennon is seeded ninth (12.34) while Port Jefferson junior Alexa Jacobs is the No. 1 seed at 11.74 seconds.
Cresanti also qualified for a pair of events. In addition to the 200-meter dash, Cresanti is the sixth seed in the 400-meter dash at 57.84 seconds. Fredonia senior Delaney Kaiser is seeded ninth in the 400 (58.59) while Keshequa junior Riley Nageldinger and Gananda sophomore Haley Conner are tied for the No. 1 seed at 57.29 seconds.
Clymer/Sherman/Panama Kolten Rhoades is seeded third (156-1) and Southwestern junior Tyler McIntyre is seeded sixth (151-7) in the discus. Harley Allendale senior Gabe Levin is the No. 1 seed at 160-2.
Frewsburg senior Cody Kent is seeded fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:57.53). Tri-Valley’s Van Furman is the No. 1 seed at 9:13.63. Kent took 10th in the Division 2 steeplechase last year at Cicero-North Syracuse.
Southwestern junior Ryan Ohl is seeded fourth in the 400-meter dash at 49.17. Poly Prep senior Kofi Rossi is the No. 1 seed at 47.97.
Falconer/Cassadaga Valley junior Mary Lundmark is seeded fourth in the pole vault (10-9). Oakfield-Alabama senior Paige Harding is the No. 1 seed at 11-9.
Southwestern junior M’Kenzie Zavala is seeded eighth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.51). Nageldinger is the No. 1 seed at 1:03.24.
Frewsburg junior Noah Erickson is seeded ninth in the 400-meter hurdles at 57.06. Taconic Hill senior Ethan Zacarolli is the No. 1 seed at 55.06.
Southwestern senior Connor Young is seeded ninth in the long jump at 22-1.5. Midlakes junior Aiden Bryant is the No. 1 seed at 24-1.75.
Southwestern’s girls 1,600-meter relay, consisting of Zavala, Cresanti, Lewis and junior Tryniti Card, is seeded No. 1 at 4:01.97. Last year, Cresanti, Card, then-sophomore Avery Johnson and graduating senior Alexis Grijalva took fifth in Division 2.
Southwestern’s girls 3,200-meter relay, made up of Lewis, now-junior Avery Johnson, Card and Cresanti, is also seeded first at 9:20.90. Last year, Lewis, Card, Cresanti and then-junior Kate MIller finished third in Division 2.
Maple Grove’s 1,600-meter relay, made up of senior Rider Carlson, juniors Ty Kraft and Ethan Verbosky, and sophomore Ty Oste, is seeded fifth (3:27.32). Junior Owen Erlandson will be the alternate in Middletown. James I. O’Neill is seeded No. 1 at 3:26.31.
CLASS A
Jamestown senior Jarren Cotter is seeded 13th in the 200-meter dash (22.29). The No. 1 seed is FM-A junior Nikita Domashenko at 21.16.
Jamestown junior Jorge Rivera Jr. is seeded 16th in the discus (140-3). The No. 1 seed is Commack junior Anthony Pisciotta at 177-2.
Jamestown’s 1,600-meter relay, made up of Cotter, sophomore Cameron Burgess, senior Brighton Lumia and freshman Beckett Lumia is seeded 17th at 3:22.81. Washingtonville is the No. 1 seed at 3:15.39.
Jamestown’s 400-meter relay, made up of Cotter, senior Ayden Samuelson, and sophomores Angel Martinez and Burgess, is seeded 21st (43.09). North Rockland is the No. 1 seed at 41.41.
CLASS B
Dunkirk senior Johnee Thomas is tied for the ninth seed in the 400-meter dash at 49.29. Green Tech senior Jaylen Mozone is the No. 1 seed at 47.09. Thomas finished eighth in Division 2 last year with a time of 51.17 seconds.
Dunkirk senior Jareese Gaines is tied for the 13th seed in the high jump at 6-3. Monticello junior Quenten Liciaga is the No. 1 seed at 6-7.

Gates will open at noon Friday at Middletown High School with track and field events both set to begin at 1 p.m. On Saturday, gates will open at 8 a.m. with competition to begin at 9 a.m.
