A Fredonia man is facing drug charges after an incident Wednesday in the city of Dunkirk.
City police report at 4:29 p.m. Wednesday, an officer observed a subject in a vehicle in the area of East Fifth Street and Park Avenue with a confirmed warrant out of the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office. Officers approached the vehicle and took the suspect, Dakota O. Cordell, 28, into custody.
While doing so suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia were observed in plain view inside the vehicle. Cordell then attempted to grab the suspected narcotics and discard them, and had to be restrained by an officer.
Further search of the vehicle and Cordell led to the discovery and seizure of a substantial amount of suspected narcotics and paraphernalia. Approximately 7.8 grams of suspected Fentanyl, 1.7 grams of suspected meth, a large amount of powder that was unable to be identified, packaging material, scales, and a considerable amount of cash were seized.
All items located were consistent with street level narcotics sales. Cordell was transported to city police headquarters where he was held and arraigned on charges of felony third- and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, felony fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felony tampering with physical evidence, two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia. Cordell was arraigned in Dunkirk City Court, released without bail, and turned over to the Sheriff’s Department on his outstanding warrants.
