GARDENDALE, Ala. (WBMA) – After years of persistent efforts, the Gardendale Mayor announced that Academy Sports + Outdoors will open a new store on Odum Road near Exit 271 on I-65, next to Longhorn Steakhouse.
The 55,000-square-foot building is currently under construction.
"New jobs, increased revenue, and new shoppers will pay dividends to our city for many years to come," the mayor said.
The mayor expressed pride in Gardendale being chosen for the store and thanked the city council for their unwavering support.
Academy Sports + Outdoors, a sporting goods and outdoor recreation retailer, was founded in 1938 in Texas and now operates over 300 stores across 21 states. The company aims to provide "Fun for All" with a diverse product range in outdoor, apparel, sports, recreation, and footwear.
