Gloucestershire cricket has signed a non-binding heads of terms agreement to explore a new site in Swanmoor Stoke on the edge of Bristol.
The county club announced in December 2023 that it was exploring options to move from its historic Bristol County Ground, in Ashley Down, Bristol, where it has played for more than a century.
Swanmoor Stoke is situated between Severn Beach and Patchway in the north west outskirts of Bristol, near the M5 and M49 motorways.
A club statement said it will "continue its discussions with the owners of other possible sites, its primary focus for the coming months will be in developing opportunities at Swanmoor Stoke".
Club chair Peter Matthews said the "status quo" does not change despite the announcement, with the County Ground having international hosting rights with the England and Wales Cricket Board until 2032.
"Whilst this looks like a tremendous opportunity, the project is still at concept stage," Matthews said.
"Whilst today's announcement shows continued momentum in our search for a possible new home, it doesn't materially change the status quo.
"We are not tied into any legal deal and whilst the board-appointed team will continue to work up the club's options in line with the non-binding heads of terms, the entirety of our executive team will remain focused on running the club and making the Seat Unique Stadium a welcoming and enjoyable year-round destination for matches and events."
