BROOKVILLE — Warren’s track and field teams had three individual first-place finishes, several district qualifiers, and more personal-best performances on Saturday at the 26-team Demans Team Sports Brookville Invitational at Brookville High School.
“We had a really good showing at Brookville,” said Warren coach Kevin Dustin. “Sam Lindell won the 2-mile, while Lilly Newton and Max Spiegel both won the high jump as highlights for us. We also had a lot of people set personal- and season-bests and several more qualify for districts.”
Lindell’s win in the 3,200-meter run came in 10:03.67 (district-qualifying) against 30 other runners. He was also second out of 51 in the 1,600 in 4:29.72 (district-qualifying), or just one second off the Warren Area High School record.
Spiegel won the high jump in a field of 37 with a height of 6 feet, 2 inches (district-qualifying).
Newton topped 34 others with her 5-foot-2 high jump (district-qualifying). She was also second out of 35 in the 400 at 1:02.41 (district-qualifying).
Other top finishers for the Warren boys included:
Chase Sitler (14th out of 51 in the 100-meter dash);
Kahle Kuzminski (13th out of 46 in the 200);
Quinn Norris (10th out of 36 in the 400 and eighth out of 46 in the 800 in the district-qualifying time of 2:10.51);
Leyton Salvatore (sixth out of 49 in the 800 in the district-qualifying time of 2:08.47, and sixth out of 51 in the 1,600 in the district-qualifying time of 4:43.37);
Cole Fitzgerald (seventh out of 31 in the 3,200);
Adon Maier (ninth out of 28 in the 110 high hurdles in the district-qualifying time of 17.41 seconds);
Scott Nichols (10th out of 28 in the 300 low hurdles);
Trey Carrington (tied for 11th out of 37 in high jump), and;
Alex Gulnac (10th out of 43 in discus).
Top finishers for the Lady Dragons included:
Morgan Ceriola (21st out of 52 in the 100);
Leona Hovan (eighth in the 800 in the district-qualifying time of 2:33.40, and eighth out of 35 in the 400 in the district-qualifying time of 1:05.32);
Brynn Norris (fifth out of 45 in the 800 in the district-qualifying time of 2:30.60);
Morgan Alexander (second out of 46 in the 1,600 in the district-qualifying time of 5:26.82, and 12th out of 45 in the 800 in the district-qualifying time of 2:35.15);
Riley Evan (ninth out of 46 in the 1,600 in the district-qualifying time if 5:41.32, and ninth out of 30 in the 3,200 in the district-qualifying time of 12:45.25);
Emma Peterson (fifth out of 30 in the 3,200 in the district-qualifying time of 12:32.93, and 11th out of 46 in the 1,600 in the district-qualifying time of 5:43.93);
Adison Cullers (ninth out of 31 in the preliminaries of the 100 hurdles in the district-qualifying time of 18.06, and 12th in the finals, and fifth out of 26 in the 300 hurdles in the district-qualifying time of 50.86);
Gracie Page (tied for seventh out of 26 in pole vault);
Hailey Cabisca (13th out of 45 in long jump);
Brady Caudill (20th out of 41 in discus), and;
Lara Pearson (15th out of 39 in javelin with a district-qualifying throw of 88-02).
“Showing progress is exactly what we want to be doing right now,” said Dustin. “We come into some big meets in the next couple weeks that will really challenge us. We are looking forward to the challenge and what we can accomplish for the rest of the season. We are very happy with how the weekend went.”
