The basketball season may have just ended, but the first round of postseason awards were released on Tuesday.
The Mahoning Valley had a number of honorees in the All-Inland District, and a couple players and coaches received yearly recognition.
Warren G. Harding’s Chaz Coleman and Warren JFK’s Nick Ryan were selected as players of the year in Division II and VII, respectively amongst the boys. And for the girls, Crestview’s Addison Rhodes was named Division V Player of the Year, while West Branch’s Walt DeShields and Columbiana’s Dave Crismon took the titles for coach of the year in Division IV and VI.
This year’s teams were smaller than in years past due to the divisions expanding from four to seven this season.
    BOYS
Starting in Division II, Coleman and Boardman’s Terrell McDowell were named to the first team. Austintown Fitch’s Marcel Finkley and Harding’s Myles Miller took second team.
In D-III, Chaney’s Allen Hill Jr. got a second-team nod.
Division IV saw a trio of locals on the first team. Ursuline sophomores Jaylen Gunther and Noah Bell joined Canfield’s Drew Shapiro. Another Irish sophomore, Jace Riccardo, and Canfield junior Bryce Roberts both got second team.
Three more locals were named to the first team in Division V, with South Range’s Luke Rohan, Poland’s Carmine Tukalo and Garrettsville Garfield’s Preston Gedeon making the cut. Second team saw Dominic Phillips of Girard, Garfield’s Aidan Hill and South Range’s Graham Heikkinen receive recognition.
Campbell’s Josue Rodriguez, LaBrae’s Derek Wilson and Columbiana’s Seth Struharik made the first team in Division VI. Red Devil guard Jared Colon and Newton Falls’ Landon McGregor were named to the second team.
Division VII had the most honorees for the boys. Bristol’s Kaiden Kohler, Windham’s Carlos Bruton, Jackson-Milton’s Ryen Romigh and Heartland Christian Collin Kalaher were first-team recipients. A few more appeared in the second team as Bristol’s Jack Berry, Badger’s Alton Winchek and Mathews’ Dominic Toto appeared.
    GIRLS
Austintown Fitch’s Rachel Spalding was named second team all-district in Division II.
Chaney standout Alyssa Brown got first-team honors in Division III, and the second team featured Howland sophomore Maya Kubancsek.
Division IV had several first-teamers. West Branch’s Audrey Eaton, Salem’s Reese Davidson-Chuck, Canfield’s Jenna Triveri and Niles’ Kherington Stanford were selected. Allie Muniz was the lone area representative on the second team.
A pair of Crestview Rebels appeared on the Division V first team as Luvrain Gaskins and Rhodes made the list. South Range’s Gwen Lowry and Garfield’s Mandy Cardinal both made the second team.
Three locals took the top team in Division VI. They were Springfield’s Jameka Brungard, Mineral Ridge’s Ava Hulett and Columbiana’s Ava Heinrich. Ellie Venezia also represented Columbiana on the second team.
Area girls made up over half the first team in Division VII. Warren JFK’s Didi Ryan, Bristol’s Lauren Church, Maplewood’s Morgan Himes and Western Reserve’s Isabella Mauro each got a first-team spot. The second team was also loaded as Badger’s Gabriella Miller, JFK’s Gianna Pompelia, Maplewood’s Claire Urchek and Western Reserve’s Quincy Miller were selected.
