'He Was Magnificent': Gill Praises Prasidh Krishna Despite Horror Show In Birmingham – News18

Team India registered a historic Test win at Edgbaston on Sunday night, thrashing England by 336 in the second fixture of the five-match series. Gill’s 430 runs across innings and Akash Deep’s 10-wicket haul led a stunning comeback, helping the visitors to level the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy 1-1.
While Gill stood out with his centuries in both innings, the performances of Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep were equally impactful. The duo shared all 10 English wickets in the first innings with Siraj returning 6 for 70 while Akash bagging 4 for 88. In the second essay, Akash pocketed 6 wickets to complete a 10-wicket haul while Siraj contributed with the priced wicket of Zak Crawley.
However, the third pacer in the attack – Prasidh Krishna – didn’t reap as much success as the other two. He had a nightmarish outing in the first innings, conceding 0 for 72 and then managed the lone wicket of Chris Woakes to end the match with figures of 1 for 111.
Despite a below-par performance with the ball, Krishna found support from his captain. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Gill praised the pacer for maintaining pressure despite not having many wickets to show for his effort.
“Prasidh didn’t get as many wickets but he bowled brilliantly," Gill said.
“He hit the right lengths and was getting the ball to move both ways, which was difficult on a pitch like this. He was magnificent for us," he added.
Meanwhile, the newly-appointed Test captain heaped praise on Siraj and Akash Deep for making his job easier.

“When your two fast bowlers take 17 wickets, then it becomes easy for the skipper. Bumrah bhai was not there, but the bowlers we have in the squad are capable of taking 20 wickets in a match," Gill told former India batting star Cheteshwar Pujara on JioHotstar after the team’s win.
But all’s well that ends well. India pulled off a stunner in the absence of their most valuable player, Jasprit Bumrah. Now the two teams will move to London for yet another mouth-watering contest awaiting at the home of cricket – Lord’s.
