Heat Dealt Unfortunate Kevin Durant News on Sunday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
From the moment the Miami Heat’s season ended in what was the most lopsided playoff series in NBA history, their sights were set on making a huge splash to help bolster their roster.
For the third or fourth time in the past decade, the Heat were viewed as having a chance to land two-time NBA Champion Kevin Durant. After being traded from the Nets to the Phoenix Suns in 2023, Durant spent multiple years chasing another ring with Devin Booker and Bradley Beal.
While they had the star power, they didn’t accomplish much. With the Suns missing the playoffs this season, and trending toward a rebuild, the 36-year-old 15-time NBA All-Star requested yet another trade.
While the Heat had widely been viewed as one of, if not the top, destination for Durant, they simply were unable to put together an enticing enough package.
On Sunday, it was revealed that Durant was traded to the Houston Rockets.
The news was reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania, who revealed the impressive haul the Suns got in return.
“BREAKING: The Phoenix Suns are trading two-time NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 draft and five second-round picks, sources tell ESPN,” wrote Charania.
While this move may elevate a Rockets squad that clinched the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference, it only solidifies that the Heat will have to look elsewhere.
This offseason, Miami has been linked to Milwaukee Bucks All-Star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, and is also reportedly interested in Jonathan Kuminga of the Golden State Warriors.
It’s unclear what Pat Riley has up his sleeve, but what we do know is that the Heat have missed on Durant…again.
