It was one last dance for one of the greatest T20I players-Andre Russell, as he walked out in front of an emotional crowd at his home ground of Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica on July 22 (Monday).
Playing his last international match for the West Indies, Russell was given a guard of honour by his teammates and the Australian players during the second T20I of the five-match series. A video of the same was uploaded by West Indies Cricket on their social media handles.
While the 37-year-old walked out of the dressing room, the crowd could be seen roaring. Russell was received by Jamaican Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange. He was also presented with a memento which resembled a bat and ball-shaped guitar.
In the match, Russell flexed his muscles and hit a 15-ball 36 to take West Indies to 172/8 in their 20 overs. But it never looked enough as the Australians chased it down in only 15.2 overs.
Russell, who began his international career with a Test against Sri Lanka at Galle, played only one red-ball game. But represented the Men in Maroon in 56 ODIs and 86 T20Is.
While his last T20I came in 2025, he played his last ODI during the 2019 ODI World Cup. With a total of 2056 runs and 131 wickets, Russell was a great asset in white ball cricket for the West Indies.
