    House Fire in Mattoon Early Today – the X Radio

    While on routine patrol, a Mattoon police officer smelled smoke in the area. The officer was able to locate the source of the smoke coming from 2804 Pine.
    The Mattoon Fire Department was dispatched at 3:55 A.M and arrived on scene at 04:00 A.M to find a single-story, single-family home with a moderate smoke condition inside the structure. Crews made a quick interior attack and were able to contain the fire to the room of origin within five minutes of arrival. Other crews searched the residence and found it to be vacant and under
    renovation. Crews then conducted overhaul to ensure all fire was found and extinguished. There were no injuries reported at this incident. A fire department investigator began a cause and origin
    investigation; this fire is currently still under investigation. All crews cleared the scene at 06:00 A.M.
    Mattoon Fire Chief Jeff Hilligoss offered special thanks to Mattoon police officers for locating this fire while out patrolling. This early notification kept this fire from becoming much worse.
