Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan has said that ace India pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s spell on the morning of Day 4 of the Lord’s Test was the best, and it is surprising how Zak Crawley didn’t lose his wicket to the star Indian bowler despite Bumrah breathing fire.
The ace Indian pacer had tested Crawley in the sole over of the second innings on the third day.
Bumrah delivered more of the same on Day 4 of the Test too, forcing Crawley and Ben Duckett to play at the ball, while the variable bounce did the rest of the damage to their confidence and strokeplay.
“When you have got a Jasprit Bumrah, his spell on Day 4 morning was up there with the best. How is Zak Crawley’s hand still intact? How he didn’t lose his wicket, or Ollie Pope for that period, was beyond me," Vaughan said while speaking on Cricbuzz.
“On that kind of wicket, once you have seen off Bumrah, to get bowled out from 145/4, whatever happens in the Test, they should be analysing that. I think we should have got at least 250-270 on that kind of surface," Vaughan added.
Bumrah had to wait for his first scalp of the second innings after his brilliant five-for in the first innings. He struck twice to wipe out the tail towards the end, dismissing Brydon Carse for just one run with a yorker and bowling out Chris Woakes too.
Mohammed Siraj made the difference in the morning before Bumrah returned to polish the tail.
At stumps, India stuttered to 58/4, having lost Yashasvi Jaiswal, Karun Nair, skipper Shubman Gill and night watchman Akash Deep.
With the crowd egging on the home side in the last few overs, every delivery was made into an event.
India gave England a taste of their own medicine, delaying the proceedings with KL Rahul (33 off 47) and Akash in the middle.
