IND-W vs SA-W Final, Women’s World Cup LIVE Score: The Indian women’s cricket team kept its date with history by winning its first-ever World Cup with a 52-run victory over South Africa to script a golden chapter in the country’s pantheon of sporting achievements at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.
Shafali Verma, the 21-year-old, who till last week wasn’t even in the reserves, created memories of a lifetime by scoring 87 in India’s 298/7 and then grabbed a couple of crucial wickets to restrict the Proteas Women to 246 in in front of a packed Stadium.
The seasoned Deepti Sharma (5/39) and young Shree Charani (1/48) also did their bit under extreme pressure to usher in the most memorable day for women’s cricket in the country.
The BCCI is yet to decide on the victory celebrations after India’s ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 triumph on Sunday. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said, ” Nothing like a victory parade is planned as of now. I’m leaving for Dubai to attend the ICC meetings. Several senior officials are heading there as well, so once we return, we will plan accordingly,” he said
Harmanpreet Kaur became the first Indian captain and 11th overall to win a ICC Women’s World Cup after the Indian team defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
Gautam Adani took to X and said, “Congratulations to Team India!! What a victory for Bharat and her daughters! This is not just a victory in cricket. It is a victory of spirit, of grace, of every girl who ever dared to dream.” He added, “Proud of Team India – fierce, fearless and forever Bharat. Jai Nari Shakti. Jai Hind.”
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta lauded the Indian women’s cricket team for winning the Women’s ODI World Cup, defeating South Africa by 52 runs.
She mentioned that the victory is for “every girl with a bat or a book who now sees her own boundless potential mirrored in this shining triumph.”
“From dreams quietly nurtured to thunderous roars heard across continents. Our Women in Blue didn’t just win; they transformed the story. This trophy isn’t just a title; it’s a proclamation,” the Delhi Chief Minister said in an X post.
“Not a single player said ‘what will happen now’ when things were not going well, especially after the heartbreaking loss against England,” Harmanpreet said at the post-match media conference after India’s title triumph here on Sunday. “That night changed a lot of things for us, we thought we will have to come out with a stronger mindset and everyone came together even more,” the skipper revealed, according to PTI.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team for Women’s ODI World Cup win, defeating South Africa by 52 runs.
“Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to the Indian women’s cricket team for defeating South Africa in the ICC World Cup final and becoming world champions! With tireless hard work, dedication, and unwavering self-confidence, you have enhanced the prestige of the country on the global stage. We are proud of you,” he said on X.
“Every World Cup we have gone into, there have been so many heartbreaks for all of us. But we always believed that we had a bigger responsibility – not just to win, but to keep growing women’s cricket,” Mandhana said.
Smriti also said that the support from the home crowd over the last month and a half has been incredible and expressed that those 45 sleepless nights were worth it.
“To finally lift the World Cup today – I will take those 45 sleepless nights any day for this moment. That last World Cup was definitely tough for all of us to take. But after that, we had a clear focus – to get fitter, stronger, and better in every area. And honestly, what is special about this team – and no one really talks about it – is how much we stuck together. Everyone supported each other, through good days and bad. We genuinely celebrated each other’s success. The team environment this time… it was just so positive, so connected. That has been the biggest difference, I think,” she added, according to ANI.
“I could not be prouder of this team for the campaign we had. Brilliant cricket throughout, but outplayed today (by India). Unfortunate to be on the losing side, but we will definitely grow from this. (On coming back from 69 all out and 97 all out against Australia) We did so well to put those couple of bad games behind us. We were either really good or really bad, but thankfully more of the really good. Amazing tournament for a lot of the players, and proud of the resilience we showed. (Balancing batting and captaincy) Probably did not have my best year leading into the World Cup and did not start it well. Overthinking, it was not good. It is just another game of cricket, trying to separate the two, and that sort of freed me up a bit to play my natural game and then focus on the captaincy at a different time,” Wolvaardt said after the match, according to ANI.
“We were hoping for a little bit more (swing). There was still something in it, so still feel it was the right call to bowl. We were in it for a lot of the chase but lost too many wickets. I kept checking Shafali. She batted excellently. That is the way she plays. When it comes off, she can really hurt teams. (On Kapp) She has been phenomenal for so many editions. Really sad it is going to be her last one. The whole group wanted to win it for her. She is two players in one and very happy she is on our team,” she further said.
President Droupadi Murmu praised Team India for clinching their first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup title in 2025, calling it a historic achievement that will elevate women’s cricket to new heights.
In a post on X, President Murmu said, “My heartiest congratulations to each and every member of the Indian women’s cricket team on winning the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025! They have created history by winning it for the first time. They have been playing well, and today they got the result befitting their talent and performance. This watershed moment will take women’s cricket to even higher performances. I admire the way the girls have done India proud.”
“In 1983, Kapil Dev brought about a new era and encouragement in cricket by making India win the World Cup. The same excitement and encouragement has been introduced by the women today. Harmanpreet Kaur and her team have not just won the trophy today, they have won the hearts of all Indians. They have paved the way for the next generation of women cricketers… Women’s cricket already reached its next level when our team defeated Australia in the semifinals…” ANI quoted Saikia as saying.
He added, “Since Jay Shah took charge of the BCCI (serving as secretary of BCCI from 2019 to 2024), he has brought about many transformations in women’s cricket. Pay parity was also addressed. Last month, ICC Chairman Jay Shah increased women’s prize money by 300 per cent. Earlier, the prize money was $2.88 million, and now it has been increased to $14 million. All these steps have greatly promoted women’s cricket.”
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia announced a cash reward of 51 crore for the Indian team that triumphed in the ICC Women’s World Cup, according to ANI. Team India overcame the disappointments of the 2005 and 2017 World Cup finals, defeating South Africa to claim their first-ever global title across both ODI and T20I formats.
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur said she had a strong instinct that it was Shafali Verma’s day when she handed the ball to the opener as South Africa closed in on their chase of 299 in the World Cup final.
At the presentation ceremony, Harmanpreet stated, “When Laura and Sune were batting, they were looking really good, and I just saw Shafali standing there. And the way she was batting today, I knew today’s her day. She was doing something special today, and I just thought I have to go with my gut feeling. If my heart is saying I should give at least one over to her, I’m going to give her.”
“And then I just asked her, ‘can you bowl one over?’ And she was so ready, and she’s always wanted to bowl for the team. I think that was a turning point for us,” she added.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla praised the Indian team for clinching their first ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 title, stating that they have not only secured a trophy but also captured the hearts of the entire nation. In a post on X, Lok Sabha speaker stated, “Congratulations to Team India on clinching the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025! What a display of courage, skill, and belief. You’ve not just won a trophy; you’ve won hearts across the nation. Every Indian is proud of you! Saare Jahan se accha Hindustan humaara. A golden moment for Indian cricket and for women in sports!
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, MP Rahul Gandhi extended his congratulations to Team India for clinching their first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup title in 2025. He praised the team’s outstanding performance, unwavering determination, and strong sense of teamwork, noting that their victory has brought immense pride and joy to the entire nation.
In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi stated, “What a moment of pride! Our Women in Blue have made history and touched a billion hearts. Your courage, grit, and grace have brought glory to India and inspired countless young girls to dream fearlessly. You didn’t just lift a trophy, you lifted a nation’s spirit. Jai Hind!”
And here, the Indian women cricketers lift the World Cup. That’s the moment the whole of India was waiting for. This is a huge thing for Indian cricket, especially the women’s cricket.
“Every World Cup we’ve gone into, there have been so many heartbreaks for all of us. But we always believed that we had a bigger responsibility – not just to win, but to keep growing women’s cricket. And honestly, just look at the support we’ve had over the last month and a half. It’s been incredible. To finally lift the World Cup today – I’ll take those 45 sleepless nights any day for this moment. That last World Cup was definitely tough for all of us to take. But after that, we had a clear focus – to get fitter, stronger, and better in every area. And honestly, what’s special about this team – and no one really talks about it – is how much we stuck together. Everyone supported each other, through good days and bad.
