Welcome to Sportstar’s LIVE coverage from Day 1 of the India A vs Australia A 1st unofficial Test match being played at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. This is Pranay Rajiv, Abhishek Saini, and our on-ground correspondent Sahil Mathur bringing you all the updates.
Double change: Off-spinner Tanush Kotian replaces Prasidh Krishna. Has a silly point in place.
    AUS-A 25/0 in 9 overs
First change: Gurnoor Brar into the attack replacing Khaleel and straightaway an appeal for leg before which is turned down quickly.
    AUS-A 21/0 in 8 overs
Now just two slips. Jagadeesan moved to short leg as Prasidh runs it to bowl.
Overcast conditions and the new ball seem to be assisting the bowlers. Apart from that one reverse scoop from Konstas, the batters have largely been defensive and watchful.

    AUS-A – 14/0 in 5 overs
Steady from the Aussie openers. Konstas gets off the mark with a four straight down the ground against Prasidh Krishna.
Khaleel Ahmed from the other end for India A.
Sam Konstas has already attempted one reverse sweep in the first over.
    – Sahil Mathur
Prasidh Krishna to begin proceedings. India going in with three slips, a gully, and a point. Dhruv Jurel will keep while N Jagadeesan is at third slip.

India’s ODI future without Rohit and Kohli is no longer theoretical

The omission of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from the three-match One-Day series against Australia A has sparked speculation: are India’s two modern stalwarts gradually being phased out?

Sahil Mathur informs from the ground that the umpires will have a look at outfield at 10:15am IST.
Sahil Mathur: Strange that despite no rain, no player has been in sight. A few Australian players were there for a brief period but went inside. Apart from the head coach, no Indian player has entered the ground.

Sahil Mathur: The groundstaff has now become active. It’ll take some time for them to dry up the ground, even though there hasn’t been heavy rain but only steady drizzle, which now seems to be fading away.

Representing India A in the upcoming series against Australia A is a crucial step for players eyeing a spot in the senior national team, head coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar said on Monday.
Live visuals from the ground paint a bleak picture. The players are not be seen even in the dugouts. With the drizzle not relenting, expect a further delay in the arrival of both teams. Weather forecasts for Lucknow predict rain on all four days of the contest.

A rainy morning here in Lucknow where India-A is taking on Australia-A in the first four-day game. A timely start is unlikely since it’s currently drizzling.

Iyer, absent from the Test setup since 2024, will lead the India A side in the two games. It is a crucial chance for him to push for a recall in the longer format, where he has scored 811 runs in 24 innings at an average of 36.86. Padikkal finds himself in a similar place: he last featured in the Perth Test against Australia in 2024 but missed the subsequent England tour.
India A: Shreyas Iyer (c), Abhimanyu Easwaran, N. Jagadeesan (wk), Sai Sudharsan, Dhruv Jurel (vc/wk), Devdutt Padikkal, Harsh Dubey, Ayush Badoni, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Tanush Kotian, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Khaleel Ahmed, Manav Suthar, Yash Thakur.
Australia A: Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Jack Edwards, Aaron Hardie, Campbell Kellaway, Sam Konstas, Nathan McSweeney, Lance Morris, Todd Murphy, Fergus O’Neill, Oliver Peake, Josh Philippe, Corey Rocchiccioli, Liam Scott.
In the wake of the handshake row that ensued after India’s seven-wicket victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup match in Dubai on Sunday, Sportstar understands that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Director of International Cricket, Usman Wahla, has been reportedly called back to the country amidst speculation of his sacking.
Not the ideal piece of information to start the day for cricket buffs. “There’s been a steady drizzle in the morning. Rained last night too. Highly likely the start will be delayed,” pings Sahil Mathur from the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
Two four-day matches between India A and Australia A, starting Tuesday at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, promise to be more than just second-string contests — they could shape the Test futures of several players on both sides.
