The five-match Test series between India and England kicks off on June 20, marking India’s first red-ball assignment since the retirement of Test greats Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
With a fresh leadership group in place, the Indian squad has already departed for England, and a pre-tour press conference by new Test captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir has provided strong hints about the likely playing XI for the series opener.
According to early indications, KL Rahul is expected to open the innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal.
In-form batter Karun Nair, who recently smashed a double century against England Lions, is likely to slot in at No. 3. If that happens, skipper Gill could take the No. 4 position, followed by Rishabh Pant, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shardul Thakur forming the middle and lower order.
As for the bowling attack, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are certain starters, while the third pacer’s slot could go to either Prasidh Krishna or Arshdeep Singh. With a mix of experience and fresh energy, Team India appears poised to embrace its new era in Test cricket under challenging English conditions.
India’s predicted playing XI for IND vs ENG Tests: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Karun Nair, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant / Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna / Arshdeep Singh.
