India U19 pacer Deepesh Devendran ran through Mumbai in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy on Wednesday.
The fourth round of matches in the 2025-26 Vinoo Mankad Trophy, India’s national domestic U19 50-over tournament, kicked off on Wednesday (October 14). The Ekana Stadium in Lucknow played host to a Group C meeting between Tamil Nadu and Mumbai, who had contrasting starts to the season; TN won just one of their three games, while Mumbai had a 100 per cent record.
For this match, multiple players on tour with India U19 in Australia returned to take part. For Mumbai, wicketkeeper Abhigyan Kundu and leggie Naman Pushpak came in, while Tamil Nadu welcomed back pacer Deepesh Devendran.
TN skipper Abhinav Kannan won the toss and chose to field first. Kundu opened the batting alongside Vasim Khan. Deepesh took the new ball for Tamil Nadu, and made an impact with the final ball of his second over, snaring Kundu for five. In his next, he dismissed Vasim for 19, and the over after that got rid of No.3 Harsh Aghav.

In his final spell, Deepesh returned in the 39th over of the innings to take the wicket of opposition skipper and top-scorer Aryan Sakpal for 51, and then trap No.9 Vedant Bane lbw for one to complete a five-wicket haul. He returned figures of 5-19 in nine overs, including four maidens and 46 dot balls. He bowled at nine batters in all, and only four were able to score off his bowling.
Mumbai were bowled out for 131 in 46.3 overs. Deepesh was effectively backed up by BK Kishore, who bowled 48 dots in 9.3 overs, returning 2-13. V Benny Hinn, S Ankith and VK Vineeth took a wicket each.
Deepesh is the son of former Tamil Nadu cricketer Vasudevan Devendran, who was their top run-getter in the inaugural Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament (then Inter-State T20 Trophy) in 2006-07.
He toured England and Australia with India’s U19 teams this year, and particularly impressed in the latter, where his pace and bounce led to an eight-wicket haul in the first Youth Test. India won the series 5-0, across the 50-over and red-ball formats.
