Led by a blistering knock from Vaibhav Suryavanshi, his career-best score in six Youth ODIs, India U19 walloped England in a rain-affected chase. England captain Thomas Rew’s unbeaten 76 off 44 deliveries helped England post a competitive 268 for six. However, it was the explosive batting of 14-year-old Suryavanshi that truly stole the show in the second innings. The young southpaw hammered a 20-ball fifty, setting the tone for India’s chase.
Suryavanshi’s sensational innings included nine sixes and six fours before he was dismissed for 86 off just 31 deliveries. India comfortably chased down the 269-run target in a mere 34.3 overs. Suryavanshi’s 20-ball half-century is the second-fastest by an Indian batter in youth ODIs, with only Rishabh Pant’s 18-ball fifty against Nepal U19 in 2016 being quicker. Additionally, his nine sixes set a new Indian record for the most maximums in all youth ODIs, surpassing the previous joint record of eight held by Raj Angad Bawa and Mandeep Singh.
