    India vs Australia 1st ODI LIVE Score: Skipper Mitchell Marsh anchored the chase beautifully as Australia beat India by seven wickets in the rain-affected first ODI to take the lead in the three-match series in Perth on Sunday. Sent in, India scored 136/9 after the contest was reduced to 26-over-a-side game after rain interrupted proceedings for the third time, with the visitors struggling at 52 for four in 16.4 overs.
    Set a revised target of 131 under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method, Australia completed the task in 21.1 overs, with Marsh 46 not out off 52 balls emerging as the top-scorer. Wicketkeeper Josh Philippe chipped in with a brisk 29-ball 37 to swing the game Australia’s way.
    Axar Patel (31 off 38 balls) and KL Rahul (38 off 31) gave momentum to India’s innings after resumption, before debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy’s (19 not out off 11) useful cameo. With this loss, Shubman Gill became the second Indian captain after Virat Kohli to lose first match in charge in 5-over format. It was also India’s first ODI loss in 2025.
    The match also marked the return of Kohli and Rohit Sharma after seven months. Both Kohli and Rohit have retired from Tests and T20Is and last played for India during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
    “The weather played its part. Thanks to the all the crowd that stuck around. Always nice to win at home. Obviously seamed around a little bit. Proud of the way the young guys came out and took the game on. Made my job easier,” said Marsh, who was also named Player of the Match.
    “Never easy when you lose three wickets in the powerplay, you are always trying to play a catch-up game. Lot of learnings from this game and a lot of positives. Defending 131, we took the game pretty deep and very satisfied with that. We are very fortunate that the fans turn up in large numbers wherever we play.”

Kohli’s eight-ball duck today was his second-lowest innings. Previously, Kohli registered a nine-ball duck against England in the 2023 World Cup in Lucknow. It was also Kohli’s 39th duck in international cricket.
