That wicket brings the lunch break. India openers sweated there for 16 overs before Rohit lost his concentration to get out. Rahul was sent back to the pavillion in the same over of Cummins. Kohli then fell to Starc and India are in trouble now.
IND 33/3 (26.1) need 307 to win
Wicket number three for Australia and India have lost Virat Kohli. His extended poor form continues. And yet again a familiar dismissal. Starc goes full outside off stump. Kohli tries to play the ball but gets an outside edge to Khawaja in first slip. Another failure for Kohli. He departs for five and India in serious, serious trouble.
IND 33/3 (26.1) need 307 to win
Indian hopes rest on the shoulders of Jaiswal and Kohli now. Some very tight bowling so far from Australia and some really watchful batting from India. The run rate is 1.24. right now. Jaiswal has played 78 balls for his 13 and Kohli has played 27 balls for his 4. But that will not be on India’s mind. They just do not want to lose any more wicket.
IND 31/2 (25) need 309 to win
Cummins in his nine overs so far has given away just 10 runs. He has also picked both of Indian wickets so far. Captain leading Australia from the front. India need to go to lunch without any more damage. All eyes on Kohli and Jaiswal now. The duo had a good partnership in the first innings. They need to do it again and do it better this time.
IND 28/2 (21) need 312 to win
KL Rahul departs. Two in an over for Cummins. Rahul is late on this good length ball. He can not decide whether to leave or to play. The ball takes the outside edge and lands in Usman Khawaja’s safe hands. A Duck for Rahul. And suddenly India find themselves in an uncomfortable position courtesy Cummins.
IND 25/2 (17) need 315 to win.
Rohit Sharma is gone. Full ball from Pat Cummins and Rohit looks to flick it on the leg side. Slight away movement from the ball and it flies off the leading to edge towards gully where Mitchell Marsh pulls off a stunning catch. Rohit’s woes continue as he goes after adding just nine runs. He played 40 balls and it seemed he had weathered the initial storm but now he is gone. India lose their first wicket.
Things under control for India so far. The openers have managed to see off 13 overs without damage. Australia would soon be frustrated and try to push for wickets if they want to win.
21/0 (13) need 319 to win
Jaiswal and Rohit doing just what India would have liked. Playing out the new ball has been a concern for India on this tour but today the opening duo is looking solid. Just one boundary from the first 10 overs but India re doing well.
IND 17/0 (10) need 323 to win
Starc goes a bit too full and Jaiswal shows the full face of the bat to send the ball straight down the ground for India’s first boundary in this chase.
IND 6/0 (5) need 334 to win
Watchful start from India. Just two singles so far in four overs but they would not worry about that. Very important to play out the new ball here if India have to have a chance in the chase.
IND 2/0 (4) need 338 runs to win
Mitchell Starc with the first over for Australia. India opening with Yashasvi Jaiswal and skipper Rohit Sharma. For the Indian captain, this perhaps is the most important innings of his career. A failure here might just shut down his career. Anyways, we begin. India chase 340.
The equation is now simple India need 340 runs in 92 overs with all 10 wickets in hand.
Bumrah ends with five. Lyon is his last scalp in this innings who contributed with a spectacular 41 after coming to bat at no10.
Australia have been bowled out and it is none other than Jasprit Bumrah who takes the final wicket of the innings.
AUS 474 & 234 (83.4)
IND 368 need 340 to win
Elsewhere, Temba Bavuma-led South Africa entered the World Test Championship (WTC) final by beating Pakistan by 2 wickets. Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen held front as they stitched a fifty-partnership to take the hosts home after Mohammad Abbas had derailed their innings with a six-for.
Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj wrecked havoc on day 4 as Australia faltered at 91/6 before some lower-order fightback helped them recover to 228/9 at stumps on day 4. India’s hopes were revived by Bumrah and Siraj, who left the Aussie camp worried with some devastating piece of fast bowling.
