Alyssa Healy and Ellyse Perry are making light work of India’s bowling attack, keeping the scoreboard ticking with authority. Despite the early breakthrough, the pair has ensured Australia remain firmly on top. India desperately need wickets to stay in the contest, but with the way these two are batting, that task looks increasingly difficult.
Alyssa Healy continues her blazing form, bringing up her fifty in just 34 balls, the fastest of the 2025 World Cup. However, India finally have something to cheer about as Shree Charani breaks the dangerous opening stand. Litchfield’s reverse sweep found Sneh Rana at backward point, departing for 40. India will be relieved but need more quick wickets, as Australia remain in control of this chase.
Australia are flying at the moment, with Phoebe Litchfield and Alyssa Healy completely taking control of the chase. The pair is finding boundaries at will and rotating strike seamlessly, leaving India desperate for a breakthrough. The hosts need something special here to break this partnership and pull things back before the game slips further away.
Australia have begun their chase in style, shifting gears after a cautious start. Openers Phoebe Litchfield and Alyssa Healy look well set, rotating strike smartly and punishing loose deliveries. India, who know spin will be their biggest weapon as the innings progresses, are giving it everything in the field, searching for that crucial early breakthrough to tilt the momentum.
Australia have begun their record chase steadily and there’s early movement for the Indian opening bowlers.
Can India strike early?
India lost the previous match to South Africa at the same venue and dew played a big part in easing the chase for the visitors. The same can play a big part today as well so India have to be laser sharp with their control. Australia is the side to beat if India want to solidfy their World Cup chances and the opportunity is now. The hosts still have to lock horns with 2 big challengers, England on 19th and New Zealand on 23rd to add to their bid of lifting the cup at home.
India post their highest-ever total in Women’s World Cup history, surpassing their previous best of 317 against West Indies in 2022. Despite being on course for 350 at one stage, the hosts lost 6 wickets for just 36 runs to be bowled out for 330. Annabel Sutherland was outstanding for Australia, claiming a brilliant 5 for 40 in 9.5 overs to bring the innings under control. Smriti Mandhana (80) and debutant Pratika Rawal (75) laid the foundation, while Harmanpreet Kaur, Harleen Deol, Richa Ghosh, and Jemimah Rodrigues chipped in with brisk cameos to propel India to a formidable total.

India continue to lose wickets at key moments, just when they look set for a final flourish. The lower order now carries the responsibility, with Sneh Rana and Kranti Gaud both capable of striking the ball cleanly and having contributed in this tournament trying to take the hosts beyond the 350-mark. Australia have pulled things back superbly with disciplined bowling at the death, ensuring India don’t run away with the game after that strong platform earlier.
Australia strike twice in quick succession and it’s that woman again Annabel Sutherland doing the damage with her clever variations. Richa Ghosh departs for a brisk 32 off 22, mistiming a slower one to long-on, and just two balls later, Jemimah Rodrigues falls for 33 off 21, caught at mid-off trying to go big. Both played vital counterattacking knocks that lifted India’s tempo, but their dismissals have dented the hosts’ charge toward a massive total. With Deepti Sharma and Amanjot Kaur at the crease and only five overs left, India will be pushing hard to get past the 350-mark.
India have bounced back in style after that double blow as Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh are counterattacking brilliantly. The duo has stitched together a crucial partnership, rotating the strike smartly while finding boundaries at regular intervals. Richa continues her fine form from the previous match, timing her strokes beautifully and manipulating the field with confidence. With quick runs coming in the last four overs, India are once again back on top and eyeing a commanding total.
A massive twist in the game as Australia strike twice in quick succession. Schutt removes the Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur for 24, cutting straight to point, before Molineux dismisses Harleen Deol in the very next over as she miscues one to long-off. India, who were cruising, suddenly find themselves in a tricky phase at 250-4. Richa Ghosh, fresh from her heroics against South Africa, joins Jemimah Rodrigues as the pair now shoulders the responsibility to rebuild the innings.
Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Harleen Deol are looking to build on the dream start provided by Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal. However, Pratika departs for a well-made 75 off 96 after pulling one straight to Perry at fine leg off Sutherland. Harmanpreet, visibly fired up, has channelled that frustration into her batting, taking the attack back to the Aussies.
Good signs for India as Harleen Deol carries on the momentum from where Smriti left off. There was a moment of panic with a mix-up between Harleen and Pratika Rawal, but they survived. The hosts now eye a massive total to pile scoreboard pressure on Australia.
Oh, just what India feared! Smriti Mandhana falls for a brilliant 80 off 66 after a sparkling innings. Molineux gets the crucial breakthrough as Mandhana’s slog sweep finds the fielder at deep midwicket. The record partnership comes to an end, but Pratika Rawal continues to look solid, joined now by Harleen Deol at the crease.
Smriti Mandhana scripts history as she becomes the fastest woman to reach 5000 ODI runs achieving the feat in just 112 innings. What a champion! At the other end, Pratika Rawal brings up her fifty too, continuing India’s dominance. The openers have laid a dream platform, with the partnership flourishing and Australia searching for a breakthrough with pressure clearly visible on them.
Smriti Mandhana brings up her 35th ODI fifty in fine style as India’s openers continue to impress. The left-hander has looked in total control alongside Pratika Rawal, with the pair stitching together a solid 100-run stand. India Women are 105 for no loss after 19 overs, setting up a strong foundation for a big total against Australia.
India are carrying forward the momentum and the scoreboard is ticking.
This stand is bringing worrying signs for Australia who will be eager to break this partnership.
India have shifted gears!
Smriti Mandhana gets going and doesn’t look back as India have a solid powerplay in Visakhapatnam.
The good start for India continues as Pratika Rawal found the fence twice. She has looked in fine form throughout this World Cup and will aim for a big score today.
The surface is on the slower side and India are off to a cautious start here in Visakhapatnam. They would want to get off to a good start in the powerplay that lays the foundation for a big total because beting Australia will demand a special effort.
Harmanpreet Kaur: “Pitch looks better than what we had in the last game. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. It’s about how you bounce back. We were there in the (last) game for 95 overs, lots of positives for us. They’ve (fans) always been important for us. Always been nice, cheering the team day and night. Biggest part in our lives that we’re getting this support.”
Alyssa Healy: “Got dewy last evening while training. Hopefully can slide on the bat. At some point during World Cups, you just need to get what needs to be done and get the win. But when you come up against a really good opposition like India, you need to put everything together. My first time back in Vizag since 2011. Should be a great atmosphere. Got a bit of Aussie support. Girls are pumped for that.”

Australia captain Alyssa Healy has won the toss and decided that her team wants to field first against India in this all-important group-stage game.
The odds are stacked in Australia’s favour, as one might expect given the history as well as recent results of both teams. Google gives India a 31 per cent chance of winning, while the Aussies are estimated to have a 69 per cent probability of victory. But India will indeed have the home advantage, and would be eager to set the record straight at the 50-over showpiece.
The two teams have faced off 13 times in one-day internationals, and India have won just thrice, with Australia emerging victors in the other 10 encounters. In the last five meetings, the Aussies have won four games while India’s only victory came in the second ODI of their bilateral series last month.
The weather in Vishakhapatnam today is expected to be partly cloudy during the day, with 25% chances of rain. In the evening, there are heavy chances of rain. The contest could face a few interruptions.
