India vs England 1st Test Live Cricket Score: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill Take India Past 150 – thedailyjagran.com

India vs England 1st Test Live Cricket Score: India reached 92/2 in the first session of the first day against England in the first Test after being put into bat first at Headingley, Leeds on Friday. KL Rahul was dismissed for 42 whereas debutant Sai Sudharsan registered a 0 on his Test debut.
Brydon Carse and skipper Ben Stokes took the wickets for England, both striking just before lunch.
Sudharsan’s inclusion in the playing XI was confirmed by skipper Shubman Gill, at the toss. The five-match series will be Gill’s first assignment as skipper, with India also kicking off their campaign in the World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle.
England, for their part, have gone with a predictable XI. Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett at the top, followed by Joe Root, Ollie Pope and Harry Brook. Jamie Smith keeps the gloves, while captain Ben Stokes slots it on sixth. The bowling attack comprises Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, and Shoaib Bashir, competent, but not the sort of lineup that will strike fear like Anderson and Broad once did.

Indian captain Shubman Gill has reached his fifty. This is one of the most composed fifties for Shubman Gill in his test career. He has found a great partner in Yashasvi Jaiswal who is approaching another test hundred.
Ben Stokes has passed the ball to off-spinner Shoaib Bashir. A gamble for England perhaps as they will need to get a wicket soon to break this stand. Shubman Gill has raced to 40 off 44 without breaking much sweat. IND 164/2 (39.3)
This has been a magnificent effort from Jaiswal so far as he completes his fifty. This partnership is growing well and skipper Gill also has played some incredible shots. India are in a promising position at the moment in this second session. 3 runs came off that over from Tongue.
    India LIVE Score: 135/2(35)
Good over to start from Carse in this second session. There was a run out chance but skipper Gill survived as Pope’s overthrow ended up giving the visitors a total of five runs.
    India LIVE Score: 98/2 (27)
That’ll be the lunch on day one and this has been an interesting first session of this five-match series. Jaiswal and Rahul gave India a magnficent start before England bounced back with a couple of late blows.
Wicket! Oh no….There’s another one and it’s the debutant Sudharsan who heads back to the pavilion for a duck. There was no need for that shot just before lunch and Jamie Smith took an incredible catch. England have two at the end of the first session.
    India LIVE Score: 92/2 (25.4)
Wicket! There’s the first breakthrough for England and finally they have got something to cheer in this first session. A full delivery and Rahul went for a drive to get another boundary but edged it to the slip cordon where Root made no mistake with the catch.
    India LIVE Score: 91/1 (25)
Rahul looks in an incredible touch at the moment and is hitting boundaries for fun. At the same time, has has been commendably focused as well. 5 runs came off that over from Carse.
    India LIVE Score: 87/0 (23)
Fifty up for the pair of Jaiswal and KL Rahul. England will not be happy with this performance as their bowlers have not taken the advantage of the conditions completely. They have bowled short or either too full.
This has been a magnificent start for India as Jaiswal and Rahul gave no chance to the England bowlers in the first hour of the first session after being put into bat first. Four runs came off that over from Woakes.
    India LIVE Score: 44/0 (14)
This was a magnificent over from Carse and all deliveries were on the money. But Rahul made sure of his pure focus and discipline and was happy in leaving the balls outside off stump.
    India LIVE Score: 26/0 (8)
This has been a cautious start from the Indian openers, and another boundary came in that over.
    India LIVE Score: 14/0 (4)
Chris Woakes started well with the new ball in the first over, but Jaiswal started his runs with a boundary on the final delivery. Good intent from the young opener alongside KL Rahul.
    India LIVE Score: 4/0 (1)
Both teams have lined up for the national anthems, but the players will first stand in silence to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in Ahmedabad Airplane crash.

“Would’ve bowled first as well, might be a bit tough in the first session, but it should be good to bat on later. The sun is out, should be a good batting deck for us. Preparation has been amazing, we played a practice game in Beckenham, the lads are feeling great. Sai makes his debut, and Karun comes in. Sai will bat at three,” said the Indian captain.
“We’ll bowl. Headingley is a very good cricket wicket. We’ve had some really good games here. Want to try to use the early conditions. Been a long time coming, bit strange that this is just the second series, but we’re ready. It’s been mixed, some lads have played county cricket, and we’ve had three days of really good cricket. Usual suspects in the top seven, Woakes, Brydon, Bashir, Tongue, and I make up the bowling,” said the England captain.
    Test Cap number 3⃣1⃣7⃣

Congratulations to Sai Sudharsan, who is all set to make his Test Debut 🙌

Jasprit Bumrah will be playing three Tests in the series amid fitness concerns, but is all pumped up to make an impact again. He has been India’s biggest match-winner across formats for a while now.
“Plan on the go. 3 test matches are what I am looking at. First is definitely on. The rest we will see what is the plan. Yes, that is going to happen. Rest, we see how things are. What is the workload? What is the scenario. 3 Test matches is what I can manage at this moment. I don’t want to be in a desperate situation. That is one part of it, as a captain, I cannot be dictating, I will only play 3 matches. That does not send a good message to the team. So, of all these things keeping n mind. Trying to give my best as a player. Hopefully, in the games I play, I give my best,” said Bumrah.

The biggest challenge for India will be to fill in for the legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the batting order. With a lack of experience in Sai Sudharsan and others, and Karun Nair’s comeback, India have a massive challenge ahead. Notably, Virat and Rohit retired from Test cricket ahead of the all-important tour. KL Rahul has a huge responsibility as he is the most senior batter in the setup.
“I think the Test series that we played against England in India was one of the best series that I have been part of. And even in that Test series, not many of our senior players were available in every match. And how we went about that series was the way that I think this series is also going to be. I mean, if you look at the series scorecard, I think it was about 4-1, but the number wasn’t really justified by how tough that series was for us.”
The five-match series will mark the new era in Indian test cricket under new skipper Shubman Gill, post the retirements of a few legends. It will also be the beginning of India’s campaign in the World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle. They also have a chance to win their first Test series win on English soil since 2007.
