India vs England Live Score, 5th Test 2025, Day 1: Play resumes after rain interruption. Earlier, Shubman Gill fell to a self-inflicted run-out as India lost their third wicket. Woakes and Atkinson struck early for England by removing both the Indian openers, Jaiswal and Rahul, in the first session. This was after stand-in captain Ollie Pope won the toss and elected to bowl on a green surface in the fifth Test. This is a must-win game for India to draw level in the series. Can the Shubman Gill-led side end the tour on a high? Stay tuned for all the live updates.

In all readiness for the final session of Day 1 to begin. Conditions have considerably brightened up as the sun is peeking through the clouds. Unarguably, this is the brightest it has been throughout the day so far. The umpires and players make their way out in the middle. Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair walk out to the crease to resume their batting. Gus Atkinson will start the session with the ball for England. Sudharsan to face. Off we go…
UPDATE – 9.04 pm IST (3.34 pm GMT) – A bit of a delay to the start of the final session as the two on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Ahsan Raza are taking a quick inspection of the field. Pleasing signs, as all the covers have been removed, meaning we might soon get the official resumption time. And there we have it. The third and final session will commence from 9.15 pm IST (3.45 pm GMT). Also, just ICYMI, if weather and light permit, the play can go on till 12 am IST (6.30 pm GMT, the previous day) to make up for the lost overs.
    … DAY 1, THIRD SESSION …
Game stopped due to : Wet Ground Condition
It’s been one of those stop-start days where the rain has toyed with the rhythm of play, never quite letting the momentum settle. Thankfully, the skies over London seem to have cleared for now, and the ground staff are already hard at work with the mop-up. The forecast hints at a couple more potential interruptions, but fingers crossed, the rain stays away and we get a clean run through the final session. Each restart demands a fresh focus and recalibration to conditions, which can be mentally taxing from both bowling and batting perspectives. Taking into account the 20-minute Tea break, the third session is scheduled to begin at 9 pm IST (3.30 pm GMT). Whether the ground staff can complete the necessary preparations in time, though, is still uncertain. Stay tuned.
Now that early TEA has been taken, not a lot of action happened in this short passage of play. Despite the revised session timings, rain once again played spoilsport midway through the second session. In the brief window of play, India suffered a telling blow when Shubman Gill was run out within the first half hour, caught short attempting a single which was never there. His 45-run partnership with Sai Sudharsan had lent some structure to the innings, but his dismissal means India will have to regroup and start the rebuilding process all over again. England continued to be a bit inconsistent with their lengths. They weren’t quite as full as the surface demanded, something they’ll be keen to correct as and when we get back on the park.
UPDATE – 8.36 pm IST (3.06 pm GMT) – With rain showing no signs of slowing down, early TEA will be taken in a few minutes at 8.40 pm IST (3.10 pm GMT).
