Although Rohit departed for 57, Kohli went on to notch up his 52nd hundred in ODIs and 83rd in international cricket to put India in a driver’s seat. For South Africa, Marco Jansen and Nandre Burger, Corbin Bosch, Ottneil Baartman, all took two wickets each. Earlier, stand-in South Africa skipper Aiden Markram won the toss and elected to field against India.

After another dot, Bosch hits him for a 6! This is not helping India’s cause. Bosh takes a single SA need 27 off 14 balls. This is Harshit’s chance to claim another wicket.
Rana to Baartman. The number 11 manages to hold the castle.
Arshdeep does it for India. He dismisses Burger in the 1st delivery as KL Rahul takes a simple catch. The SA batter doesn’t put his bat down while dodging the bouncer. The ball hits the bat and pops up. SA lose their 9th wicket.
The last man standing, Baartman, comes to bat. SA still need 38, now off 23 balls. Bosch, at 47, is waiting at the non-striker’s end as Arshdeep bowls 4 consecutive dot balls.
What a spectacular over by the Sardar. He bowls another dot to end the over. It’s just 1 run and 1 wicket. SA need 38 off 18 balls now.
Prasidh Krishna is back in the attack. The number 24 starts with a single. India badly need a wicket. Otherwise, this partnership will likely take SA home. It’s a dot ball next. A slower ball, Virat saves the boundary, and it’s just a single.

South Africa push to 289/8 after 43 overs. Corbin Bosch lifts the pressure with a huge 6 off Jadeja and keeps rotating strike smartly.
Nandre Burger chips in with steady support before a leg-bye adds one more. Jadeja pulls things back with tighter lines, but 11 runs come in the over. The equation now stands at 61 needed from 42 balls.
Kuldeep Yadav strikes again as South Africa slip deeper into trouble. Subrayen falls for 17, edging a tossed-up ball to KL Rahul. Kuldeep completes a four-wicket haul.
Earlier in the over, Corbin Bosch briefly lifted the mood with a massive slog-swept six over long on. India stay firmly on top with the chase slipping out of South Africa’s reach.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be playing their first ODI on home soil after close to 10 months. The last time the batting duo played together at home was against England in February. The India vs South Africa series is a dress rehearsal for both sides in the lead-up to the 2027 ODI World Cup.
With no Shubman Gill at the top, it gives a chance for Yashasvi Jaiswal to prove his worth in ODIs while opening the innings with Rohit Sharma. Jaiswal has already cemented his spot as a Test opener.
Unlike in the Australia series, India have made a few changes to their squad with Mohammed Siraj, Shreyas Iyer , Axar Patel and Shubman Gill missing. While Axar and Siraj were rested, Iyer and Gill are recovering from respective injuries.
