India: Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Harleen Deol, Amanjot Kaur, Arundhati Reddy, Kranti Gaud, Renuka Singh Thakur, Richa Ghosh (WK), G Kamalini (WK), Sree Charani, Vaishnavi Sharma.
Sri Lanka: Chamari Athapaththu (c) , Hasini Perera, Vishmi Gunaratne, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Nilakshika De Silva, Kavisha Dilhari, Imesha Dulani, Kaushini Nuthyangana, Malsha Shehani, Inoka Ranaweera, Shashini Gimhani, Nimesha Madushani, Kawya Kavindi, Rashmika Sewwandi, Malki Madara.
Deepti Sharma after her impressive 1-20 in four overs in the last match became the No.1 T20I bowler in the world dethroning Australia’s Annabelle Sutherland.
Jemimah Rodrigues also gained 5 spots after her blistering 69* not out in the 1st match to reach the 9th position in the T20I batters ranking.
India won the first match of the series by 8 wickets and are currently leading the series by 1-0. Jemimah Rodrigues was adjudged the Player of the Match for her scintillating 69 not out.
India win the toss against Sri Lanka and opt to bowl first in the 2nd T20I.
Sri Lanka Women: Vishmi Gunaratne, Chamari Athapaththu(c), Hasini Perera, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Nilakshi de Silva, Kavisha Dilhari, Kaushani Nuthyangana(w), Malki Madara, Inoka Ranaweera, Kawya Kavindi, Shashini Gimhani
India Women: Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur(c), Richa Ghosh(w), Amanjot Kaur, Sneh Rana, Arundhati Reddy, Vaishnavi Sharma, Kranti Gaud, Shree Charani
The No. T20I bowler Deepti Sharma misses out in today’s match as she is unwell. Sneh Rana comes into her place in the playing XI.
Both the Sri Lankan openers – Chamari Aththapathu and Vishmi Gunaratne are on the crease to start the proceedings with the bat, while Kranti Gaud has the bowl in her hands for IND-W.
Chamari Athapaththu (31), who was looking extremely dangerous departs. India get the 2nd wicket and that too a big wicket of Athapaththu. Sneh Rana is the bowler, who lured Athapaththu to hit it straight into the hands of the long off fielder.
That was a sensational maiden over by Sneh Rana to put breaks on Sri Lanka’s brisk pace of scoring. Hasini Perera (17*) and Harshitha Samarwickrama (15*) are set and SL would expect them to accelerate from here to take them to a competitive score against a strong Indian batting line-up.
Though SL have lost only three wickets yet the Indian bowlers haven’t let the SL batters to open up their arms and restricted them at a run-rate of just above 6. SL will have to make the most of the slog over to reach to a competitive score.
India bowlers were phenomenal again as they restrict SL to a modest 128/9 at the end of 20 overs. Vaishnavi Sharma and Shree Charani chipped in with two wickets each to break the back of SL’s middle order. Chamari Athapaththu (31) was the only batter, who could show some intent during SL’s batting.
Indian off to a cautious start in the first over as they score 5 runs of the first over. Both Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma are dangerous batters and can take the match away from SL in no time.
Despite Smriti Mandhana falling early, Indian batters continued their merry ways and brought India’s 50 in just 5 overs. Shafali Verma (20*) is hitting SL bowlers to all parts of the ground.
Jemimah Rodrigues becomes Kawya Kavindi’s first wicket of the night but India are cruising towards another dominant victory with Shafali Verma and Harmanpeet Singh at the crease.
Yet another comprehensive victory for the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian side, fresh off their success in the Women’s ODI World Cup last month. India claim a 7-wicket victory to double their lead in the 5-match T20I series.
Solid performance with the bat as well as the ball by the Indians, who will head over to Thiruvananthapuram now to claim an unassailable lead.
That’s the wrap from our end. We’ll be back soon with another blog, until then, bye bye.
