    Anahat Singh bows out in Boston quarters
    Reigning women’s national champion Anahat Singh bowed out in the quarterfinals of the Boston Open, a USD 15,000 PSA Challenger event, after losing to Egypt’s Jana Swaify in a five-game thriller.
    Delhi teenager Anahat, the world No. 45 and second seed in the tournament, rallied strongly by winning the third and fourth games to take the contest into the decider before her eighth-seeded opponent sealed the affair 11-4, 11-9, 6-11, 3-11, 11-5.
    Anahat defeated American Charlotte Sze 11-4, 11-6, 9-11, 11-8 in the round of 16 on Thursday after receiving a first-round bye.

    Jagathishree gears up for FIM Asia Women’s Circuit Racing in Taiwan
    Fresh from a triumphant performance at the National Circuit Racing Championship in Chennai, Jagathishree Kumaresan is set to compete in the second round of the FIM Asia Women’s Circuit Racing Championship at the Lihpao International Karting Circuit here.
    A three-time Indian national champion, Jagathishree earned her spot on the international grid through consistent performances across multiple domestic championships.
    In 2024, she won the Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship (Girls Stock 165cc) and the National Drag Racing Championship (Ladies Class).
    In 2025, she added victories in the early rounds of the MMSC FMSCI Motorcycle Racing Nationals and TVS RTR 200 Women’s Races as the lead rider of One Racing team.
    She trained under seasoned coach Mohamed Hanif, the Team Principal of One Racing, who quickly established her among India’s top female racers.

    India finishes ninth at ISSF Shotgun World C’ships with solitary bronze
    India’s trap mixed team pair of Neeru Dhanda and Bhowneesh Mendiratta came up with a below-par show to finish 25th, while compatriots Zoravar Singh Sandhu and Aashima Ahlawat ended up 28th on the concluding day of the ISSF World Championships (Shotgun) in Athens.
    A day after Zoravar won a historic individual trap bronze to become only the second Indian after Manavjit Singh Sandhu (2006 Zagreb, gold) to clinch a medal in the prestigious competition, both the country’s pairs shot identical scores of 137/150 in the qualification round to miss the four-team finals by quite a distance.
    India finished joint ninth in the medals tally along with six other nations with a solitary bronze.
    The United States topped the table with four gold, one silver and a bronze, while Spain finished second with two gold and a silver. Croatia took the third spot with two gold.

    Indian women’s rugby team wins two matches out of three in ARESS 2025 Leg 2
    Indian senior women’s rugby sevens team won two matches out of three on Day 1 of the Asia Emirates Sevens Series (ARESS) 2025 Leg 2, here on Saturday.
    India, however, failed to reach the semifinals. It will play in the 5th-8th place playoffs.
    The day began with a 17-7 victory over the UAE, where India’s resilience shone through in a physical contest.
    Bhumika Shukla gave India an early lead before UAE clawed its way back to wrestle the advantage. India, however, showed composure and determination, with Bhumika scoring again and Kalyani Patil sealing the result late in the match to ensure a confident start to its campaign.
    In the second match, the Indian team delivered a clinical performance to outclass Indonesia 50-0, marking one of its most dominant displays at the continental level.
    Captain Shikha Yadav set the tone with the opening try and added another later in the match. Kalyani Patil and Nirmalya Rout each crossed the line twice, while Sandhyarani Tudu and Dumuni Marndi also added their names to the scoresheet.
    Sandhya Rai and Tarulata Naik contributed with two conversions apiece, rounding off a complete team performance built on pace, precision, and attacking pressure.
    The final pool fixture saw India take on top seed Japan, the winners of Leg 1 in Hangzhou. Despite a spirited effort, India was outplayed by the tournament favourites, going down 0-43.

    Kerala’s Arjun Pradeep wins 400m hurdles gold at Indian Open U-23 Athletics Competition
    Kerala’s Arjun Pradeep erased the men’s 400m hurdles meet record on the final day of the Indian Open U-23 Athletics Competition, which concluded on Saturday.
    Pradeep’s winning time of 50.29 seconds was better than the previous meet record of 50.89 seconds set by P Yashas in 2022.
    The gruelling decathlon gold went to Kushal Kumar of Maharashtra, who accumulated 6905 points.
    Kushi, representing the Border Security Force, took home the heptathlon title with 5208 points.

    Pukhraj, Madappa, Chawrasia make cut in Macau
    The Indian trio of Pukhraj Singh Gill, Viraj Madappa and SSP Chawrasia made the cut at the SJM Macau Open as it headed into the weekend at the Macau Golf and Country Club.
    The cut fell at one under par. Gill, who had a 5-under 65 on the first day, shot 3-over 73 on the second day to drop down to T-43 with a total score of two under par by the end of the second round.
    But he was well inside the cut line. Madappa shot 1-over 71 for his second round to take his total to two under par as well and like Gill is placed at T-43.
    Chawrasia (68-71) carded 1-over 71 to keep himself just within the cut with a total score of one under par. He is currently placed T-59.
    Gill made three birdies, four bogeys and one double bogey on the second day. Madappa shot three birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey in the second round while Chawrasia had three bogeys and two birdies in his second round.
    Aman Raj, Anshul Kabthiyal and Arjun Sharma failed to make the cut and will have to settle for an early end to their week in Macau.
    Aman picked up the pace on the second day to card a round of 1-under 69 following his first round of 2-over 72 but his total of one over par was not enough.
    Arjun closed his week in Macau with a score of nine over par (76-73) and was placed T-128 after the second round.
    Kabthiyal ended the week with a total score of 12 over par (76-76) and was placed T-135 at the end of the second day.

    222-member Indian contingent for AYG to compete in 21 disciplines
    The 222-member contingent of Indian athletes, with more than half of them women, will compete in 21 sporting disciplines in the 3rd Asian Youth Games to be held in Manama, Bahrain from October 22 to 31.
    The Sports Ministry said on Saturday that the contingent, which has 119 female and 103 male athletes, had been cleared at full cost to the government. The athletes will be supported by 90 coaches, physios, and officials, bringing the total size of the contingent to 312.
    The contingent includes 31 athletes in track and field, 14 in boxing, 28 in kabaddi, 16 in handball, and 10 each in taekwondo, wrestling and weightlifting. The largest female representation is in athletics and handball. Olympic medallist wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt is the Chef-de-Mission of the Indian contingent.
    The Indian athletes will compete in track and field events, aquatics, badminton, boxing, wrestling, weightlifting, and judo, alongside emerging sports such as kurash, pencak silat, teqball, and camel racing.
    “SAI’s medical team and physios will also accompany the contingent, ensuring that athletes receive round-the-clock support. Special attention has been given to anti-doping measures with NADA (National Anti-Doping Agency) conducting mandatory testing before departure, and to the physical and psychological readiness of the team,” said a Ministry statement.
