Indian wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat has bagged a contract with the London-based Dulwich Cricket Club.
He will be playing for the club’s Surrey Championship campaign in 2025.
The 31-year-old cricketer has played seven Tests for India, including the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia.
Despite his experience and stints with IPL franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Capitals, Bharat went unsold in the recent mega-auction.
    Here’s more.
    Club expectations
Having recently been promoted to the Premier Division, the Dulwich Cricket Club hopes to see KS Bharat make an immediate impact on the field.
The cricketer’s last assignment for India was against England in a five-match Test series in 2024.
His signing is part of the club’s plan to bolster its squad and improve performance in the upcoming Surrey Championship campaign.
    Career highlights
Bharat first made headlines in 2015 when he became the first wicketkeeper-batsman to score a triple-century in the coveted Ranji Trophy.
His stellar domestic record includes 105 first-class matches in which he has scored 5,686 runs, including 10 hundreds and 32 fifties.
Although he has struggled with the bat in Team India colors, Bharat returned to domestic cricket to work on his batting.
    Future prospects
With Rishabh Pant‘s return and Dhruv Jurel’s emergence, Bharat’s chances of returning to Test cricket seem bleak.
But a successful season with Dulwich Cricket Club and a strong Ranji Trophy performance could boost his chances immensely.
Apart from his on-field performance, Bharat’s wealth of knowledge and experience is expected to benefit the club immensely and inspire players across all levels.
