LSG had won their first three meetings against DC since making their IPL debut in 2022, inflicting a 50-run thrashing on the Rishabh Pant-led Capitals in 2023.
DC, however, fought back in style last year and finished with a season-double against the KL Rahul-led Super Giants.
After playing a central role in India’s Champions Trophy triumph recently, KL Rahul took a bit of a breather and joined Delhi Capitals’ pre-season camp a little later than the rest of the squad.

The DC team has been playing a few of their home games at the Visakhapatnam Stadium and they have once against picked the Andhra Pradesh city to launch their new campaign which will now be led by Indian all-rounder Axar Patel after Rishabh Pant was released by the franchise.
Pant wanted captaincy at the Delhi Capitals players but the team management wasn’t sure about it, leading to them parting ways. Pant’s wish finally came true as he was bought for Rs 27 crore by LSG, making the wicketkeeper-batter, the most expensive player of all time.
On Monday, Pant will look to upset his former team, which may feature former LSG captain KL Rahul in its ranks. Rahul switched teams after DC acquired him for ₹14 crore in the auction. He captained the LSG team for three years, leading them to the playoffs twice, but his relationship with Lucknow owner Sanjiv Goenka reportedly broke down. Rahul, however, could miss the match due to “personal” reasons.
Nonetheless, the DC vs LSG clash promises to be a thrilling contest. Pant will be eager to prove his worth, while new skipper Axar will aim for a winning start. Both teams hit the reset button at the IPL 2025 mega auction and will be looking to begin their campaign on the right note in a match filled with drama and intrigue.
