Rajasthan Royals’ teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name in the history books on Monday, becoming the youngest-ever batter to score a T20 century and the fastest Indian to achieve the feat in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The 14-year-old batter stunned fans and experts alike by hammering a breathtaking 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans, setting a new benchmark in the league’s history. His explosive knock, which ended at 101 off 38 balls, made him the second-fastest batter overall to reach an IPL century, trailing only Chris Gayle’s 30-ball ton.
Tributes flooded social media after Suryavanshi’s record-breaking innings, with cricket legends from across generations lauding the Bihar youngster’s fearless approach.
Sachin Tendulkar praised the teen’s technique and mindset, posting on X, “Vaibhav’s fearless approach, bat speed, picking the length early, and transferring the energy behind the ball was the recipe behind a fabulous innings. Well played!”
Yuvraj Singh was equally amazed by Suryavanshi’s composure at such a young age. “What were you doing at 14?!! This kid is taking on the best bowlers in the world without blinking an eyelid! Vaibhav Suryavanshi — remember the name!” Yuvraj wrote.
Former India opener and 1983 World Cup winner Kris Srikkanth marvelled at the youngster’s maturity. “At 14, most kids dream & eat ice cream. Vaibhav delivers a fabulous 100 against one of the contenders for IPL! Composure, class, and courage beyond his years. We are witnessing the rise of a phenom,” Srikkanth noted.
Yusuf Pathan, whose record for the fastest IPL hundred by an Indian Suryavanshi broke, congratulated the teen warmly. “Even more special to see it happen while playing for Rajasthan Royals, just like I did. There’s truly something magical about this franchise for youngsters,” he wrote.
Fast bowler Mohammed Shami called Suryavanshi’s innings “unreal,” while Siddharth Kaul declared the 14-year-old a “future superstar” in the making.
