Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanju Samson lavished praise on 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi whom they signed at the IPL 2025 mega auction last month. The Royals signed the young prodigy for INR 1.1 crore after an intense bidding with the Delhi Capitals (DC).
Suryavanshi hogged the limelight when he smashed a 58-ball hundred in a red-ball match between India U19 and Australia U19 in Chennai. He struck 14 boundaries and four towering sixes to dismantle the Aussie bowling attack.
In the process, he became the batter to hit the fastest hundred in an Under-19 Test. Suryavanshi is only behind England’s Moeen Ali, who has a 56-ball ton under his belt in the U-19 Test, which came almost two decades back.
Sanju revealed that the entire Rajasthan management watched Suryavanshi bat in that game and immediately wanted to have him on the team.
Sanju Samson also highlighted Rajasthan’s culture of nurturing young talents by pointing out the likes of Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi also had a decent outing in the U19 Asia Cup last month, aggregating 176 runs in five matches at an average of 44. India U19, however, lost the final to Bangladesh U19 by 59 runs.
The 13-year-old prodigy became the youngest player to feature in the Ranji Trophy when he made his debut for Bihar against Mumbai in the last season. He managed to score 31 runs across two innings as Bihar succumbed to an innings and 51 runs defeat in that game.
Suryavanshi recently became the youngest player to make his debut in List A cricket, achieving the feat at the age of 13 years and 269 days. He broke Ali Akbar’s record, who made his debut at the age of 14 years and 51 days for Vidarbha.
The youngster had a dismal outing in his maiden List A game as he got out for just four runs. Bihar went down to Madhya Pradesh by six wickets in that game.
