Winter Weather Advisories continue through 10 a.m. Fridayin Oceana, Newaygo, Muskegon and Mecosta counties for as much as 3 to 5" of snow and slippery roads through the Friday morning commute.
All of West Michigan will be impacted by slippery travel Friday morning. Due to most of this event transpiring in near freezing air, the moisture content will be high. Freezing drizzle is also a possibility when it's not snowing steadily. These two factories increase how slippery the snow will be for the Friday morning commute. Most of the area will see about 1 to 3" out of this system, with the 3 to 5" range mostly north of Grand Rapids.
Snowfall rapidly winds down late Friday morning through lunchtime Friday as a northerly wind develops. An occasional snow shower or two would be possible on the backside of the system and into Friday evening. Otherwise, an unfavorable setup for lake effect snow on a north or even north-northeasterly wind transports any lake effect activity over Lake Michigan or sporadically at the immediate lakeshore. We do not anticipate accumulations. We do, however, anticipate some potential clearing in our skies Saturday afternoon and into the evening. Clearing, a nudge of artic air, and fresh snow should lead to a cold start early Sunday with some locations dipping into the single digits.
Some kind of a wintry mix develops on Monday. Where the rain/snow line sets up could be very close to Kalamazoo. Whatever mix transpires exits Christmas Eve morning. We'll keep watching the trends for Christmas, but as of now is appears slightly warmer than average with a leaning towards rain showers if anything.
