Kansas football bowl projections following Jayhawks’ Big 12 Conference loss at Texas Tech – The Topeka Capital-Journal

LAWRENCE — Kansas football lost 42-17 this past weekend on the road against Texas Tech.
The Big 12 Conference defeat dropped the Jayhawks to 4-3 overall and 2-2 against the league. It sent them into an open week ahead of an Oct. 25 matchup at home against rival-Kansas State with a lot to improve upon. It’s also a contest that garnered more attention than just the game itself.
Kansas’ wins so far this season have come at home against Fresno State, Wagner and West Virginia, and on the road against UCF. The Jayhawks’ losses, outside of the Texas Tech game, have come on the road against Missouri and at home against Cincinnati. Had KU been better able to finish out close games against Cincinnati and Missouri like it did against UCF, coach Lance Leipold’s squad could already be bowl eligible.
Before Kansas faces Kansas State, here are some bowl projections for the Jayhawks:
These projections place Kansas in the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl, which will be played on Dec. 30 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Louisiana Tech, a member of Conference USA, is currently 4-2 overall and 2-1 against its league. Its most high-profile game of the fall came on the road against LSU, which Louisiana Tech lost 23-7.
This projection puts Kansas in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl, which will be played on Jan. 2 in Fort Worth, Texas. North Texas, a member of the American Conference, is currently 5-1 overall and 1-1 against its league. It has wins already this season against Washington State, Army and South Alabama.
This projection lists Kansas in the GameAbove Sports Bowl, which will be played on Dec. 26 in Detroit, Michigan. Toledo, a member of the Mid-American Conference, is currently 3-3 overall and 1-2 against its league. All three of its losses have come in one-score games, including a 24-16 defeat on the road against Southeastern Conference-foe Kentucky.
