The Karnataka High Court has taken a Suo-moto cognizance of the RCB stampede incident outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The stampede, caused by the overcrowding of RCB fans outside the stadium for celebrating the IPL 2025 victory of the franchise, left 11 people dead and several others injured.
The High Court will be hearing the matter for the same today, i.e., a day after the deadly incident in Bengaluru.
As reported by the ANI, the Karnataka High Court has taken a Suo-moto cognizance of the deadly stampede incident that took place outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, June 4.
The incident took place at a time when the RCB franchise and the players were celebrating their IPL 2025 victory inside the stadium. Notably, the RCB franchise was originally also going to perform a bus parade, only to be reportedly denied by the authorities in lieu of heavy traffic in Bengaluru.
Nonetheless, the Karnataka High Court will now be hearing the matter at 2:30 PM today on Thursday, June 5, i.e., a day after the stampede situation in Bengaluru took life of 11 RCB fans, including that of women and children.
Regarding the incident, the RCB franchise issued an official statement mourning the lives lost in the stampede. Franchise zealot and Indian cricket behemoth Virat Kohli also echoed the sentiments on his social media account.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on the other hand, blamed local authorities for the mishap.
In addition to the Karnataka High Court hearing, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara vowed that action will be taken, and called for the need of a magisterial inquiry into the matter.
