KL Rahul cemented his status as one of the best openers going around in Test cricket after he scored his second hundred of the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy at the Lord’s cricket ground.
While he got out right after scoring his ton, he played a splendid innings in his favourite city, as he’s now averaging 55.67 after scoring 501 runs in London.
He survived the tough spell with the new ball yesterday, and reaped the rewards for it this morning on Day 3, where he was able to score much freely on both sides of the wicket. He also handled England’s short ball ploy really well, and didn’t succumb to the pressure of a packed leg side field.
However, his century didn’t come without drama as Rishabh Pant ran himself out when he was on 98*, and then Rahul had to really run hard on a risky single to complete his century.
This was Rahul’s fourth hundred as an opener in England, which is the most for any Indian opener in Test history. In fact, he has more centuries (4) than England openers Ben Duckett (3), Rory Burns and Zak Crawley (2) in England since 2018.
Overall, this was Rahul’s 10th century in SENA countries (South Africa, New Zealand, England, Australia), and now he’s sixth amongst the Indian batters with the most centuries in SENA countries.
