LAGRANGE, Ga. — Ground broke last week for the LaGrange Cricket Stadium, a 10,500-seat venue that will serve as the first world-class cricket facility of its kind in the Southeast.
Atlanta-based architecture firm TVS designed the stadium, which will meet International Cricket Council standards and be capable of hosting major tournaments, including future Cricket World Cup matches.
In September, 11Alive partner Atlanta Business Chronicle reported the 45-acre land sale that paved the way for the cricket stadium.
The venue features an intimate bowl configuration that positions spectators close to the natural turf pitch. A cantilevered roof provides shade and shelter, while modular stands on the east and west sides allow the facility to accommodate concerts, festivals and community gatherings in addition to cricket matches.
“The LaGrange Cricket Stadium’s groundbreaking marks a milestone for cricket fans across the Southeast and the United States,” Robert Svedberg, a principal at TVS, said in a release. “We have designed a world-class facility where the architecture directly enhances the experiences of athletes and spectators.”
The stadium will include open-air concourses, club lounges and street-level amenities designed to encourage community use beyond game days.
“TVS was the ideal partner to help us realize our vision,” Keval Patel, CEO of the LaGrange Cricket Stadium, said. “With their legacy of designing iconic, high-performance venues, we knew that they would deliver a stadium capable of hosting global audiences.”
The stadium aims to support cricket’s growth in the United States by providing a dedicated venue for the sport’s expanding American fanbase.
TVS has designed several prominent Georgia sports venues, including portions of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the now-demolished Georgia Dome and the College Football Hall of Fame. The firm also designed The Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground for Atlanta United.
