Manchester United are leading 1-0 against Liverpool thanks to Bryan Mbeumo's early goal.
The Frenchman stunned Anfield early on, lashing past Giorgi Mamardashvili with exactly 60 seconds on the clock.
As both sides pushed for the game's second goal, Cody Gakpo and then Bruno Fernandes rattled the post at either end, both failing to take advantage of big chances.
This can't be the same Kerkez who played for Bournemouth last season….

Kerkez is struggling once again.
He seems strangely reluctant to get forward, even when he's got 20 yards of open space in front of him.
Slot must be tempted to get Robertson on for the second half.

Ooh, close.
Szoboszlai fouls a United player, Bruno Fernandes sends a booming set piece into the box and Gakpo swipes at it messily.
The ball whistles narrowly over the bar and onto the roof of the net. The corner is right under Mamardashvili's crossbar but Konate heads it off the line.
The Georgian didn't look comfortable there despite being nearly two metres tall.

Bryan Mbeumo appears to be fouled by Milos Kerkez, who he is backing into, but no foul is given.
So, annoyed, he chops Gakpo down with a trip from behind. Could that be a yellow card?
The Liverpool fans screaming obscenities certainly think so.

That's the chant from the United fans in praise of their new stopper.
Peter Schmeichel, the United legend, watches on owlishly from the sidelines.
Think the comparison does more for Lammens than it does for Schmeichel!

Senne Lammens comes up big against Alexander Isak!
Ibrahima Konate slides through a nicely weighted through ball into the channel for Isak to chase.
Lammens could have come off his line to clear but stuck closer to home and was in a good position to block Isak's hard low shot angled across him.
The ball went out off Isak, the Swede played it back to Mac Allister, who fired it goalwards with a robust first-time strike. Lammens saved that too, even though it wouldn't have counted.

More good fortune for United and bad fortune for Liverpool.
Brilliant pass from Van Dijk out to Gakpo on the left. He takes on De Ligt down the outside, the cross strikes the defender and spins wickedly towards the far corner, wrong-footing goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
The ball kissed the post before dropping out of danger and United cleared.
This game could be 3-2! Instead it's 1-0.
Liverpool have twice now got space through United's midfield pretty easily to turn and attack.
The first saw Gravenberch have 30 yards to run into due to a disjointed press, ending in Liverpool appealing for a penalty against Amad.
The second saw Gakpo hit the post after once pass put Salah free.
The gaps are there.
Liverpool fortunate it's only 1-0. They look so vulnerable defensively.
Runners not being tracked, gaps for United to exploit and some basic errors.
Kerkez was relieved to see Mamardashvili bail him out after the keeper had got away with dropping Cunha's cross a few minutes ago.

Before the match, Arne Slot boldly said we could judge Alexander Isak fairly by his performances now. No longer can lack of game time or match sharpness be used as a reason for, or context excusing, poor performances.
So he really should have done better with that half-chance, a shot on his right foot outside the box. He made completely the wrong contact and dragged it well wide before scowling.
Wonder how Hugo Ekitike feels on the subs' bench.

This game is heating up now, end to end and plenty of chances flowing for both teams.
Crossed in from the right by United, Mamardashvili dives out of goal and flaps at it, the ball going loose, but Mount's instinctive reverse flick is spooned over.
Moments later, a poor pass nearly leads to Mbeumo getting a back-post tap in, but Mamardashvili slides in and wins the 50-50.
Then Mount drives it on the half-volley towards goal but it's a big save from the Georgian!

Alexis Mac Allister, looking like a rugby union half-back with his head bandages looking like a black scrum-cap, miscues a shot on goal, easily claimed by Lammens.

United should be two up. A lovely swift counter attack, Cunha firing it out to the right wing for Amad.
The Ivorian dribbled forward, drew markers and attention towards him, then laid it off to the edge of the penalty area for the box-crashing Bruno Fernandes.
Fernandes, timing his run perfectly, strode onto it… but his powerful effort was a whisker wide.
Should be hitting the target from there.

Fair play to Manchester United, they have been brave on the ball.
They pass it around at the back but a wayward touch nearly lets Mo Salah latch onto it.
Luke Shaw just about pivots out of danger.
And at the other end…

Now Anfield is on their feet!
Cody Gakpo hits the post and it's so close to a Liverpool equaliser.
Diogo Dalot gave it away up the pitch and a classic Liverpool move, sweeping from back to front in the blink of an eye, ended with Mo Salah feeding Gakpo, Gakpo curling it towards the bottom-right corner from outside the box.
Past Lammens’ dive, but not inside the woodwork. Inches away.

… and United wing-back Amad looks nervous.
Cody Gakpo crossed it and it was blocked by Amad at close range. His arm was in a fairly natural position and close to his body, plus he wasn't far away from Gakpo, so I think no penalty is the right call.
VAR confirms the on-field decision of no spot kick.

Real sense of anxiety around Anfield.
Frustrated with decisions and frustrating by the way in which Liverpool have started this game.
The hosts have given United something to hang on to here and Amorim's side are sitting so deep and then taking no chances by repeatedly hitting it long.
15′ Liverpool 0-1 Manchester United
Liverpool’s press is typically intense, and a coach from the sidelines yells ‘Yes lads!’ as Szoboszlai forces De Ligt into a hurried pass back to his goalkeeper.
But United are safe with the ball and clear it.
Salah, who hasn’t been as sharp as usual today or this season, is robbed by Diogo Dalot and a clever dummy from United captain Bruno Fernandes — who has been everywhere so far — sees him release Amad on the right.
United are backing up that early goal with the ambition and hard work off the ball necessary to sustain their lead.

Liverpool fans cheer ironically as they get a free kick wide on the left.
Mo Salah curls it in, Van Dijk stretches for it at the back post but it's beyond him and the header flashes wide.
That was their first attempt in this match.
