Magic Dealt Unfortunate News on $197 Million NBA Trade Rumor originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Orlando Magic is one of the teams that have been surrounded by trade rumors. Following the 2025 NBA playoffs, the Magic were eliminated in the first round by the Boston Celtics. Although the team lost, it showed that they have a bright future with Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner.
However, experts believe the Magic should make a move and upgrade the point guard position. Right now, Orlando has Jalen Suggs as the starting guard and he has shown he’s more than capable of being a significant contributor. Suggs isn’t the traditional guard that some league insiders believe the team needs.
The Florida team has been linked to All-Star guards Trae Young and Darius Garland.
On Sunday, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst gave an update regarding a potential trade that would make the Magic acquire the $197 million guard. The rumored trade would be a one-to-one trade, with both teams exchanging starting point guards.
According to Windhorst, Suggs not being an All-Star wouldn’t make Cleveland agree to a trade.
“That can’t be the trade, Darius Garland is an All-Star. Jalen Suggs is not. So there would have to be other aspects of that trade before I would consider it,” Windhorst said.
However, the NBA insider said that Suggs could be a player that the Cavaliers should have interest in. Windhorst said that the Magic’s starting point guard is similar to someone like Jrue Holiday or Alex Caruso. Given his elite two-way play, he can be an important piece to a contending team.
He also pointed out that a potential deal between the Cavaliers and Magic wouldn’t happen until after July 1. Suggs is set to start his five-year, $150 million contract extension with Orlando.
