Kari Gibb/MDN Minot High senior Carter Coleman (17) in previous action, scored the first goal of the third period in game one against the Lake of the Woods in Roseau, Minnesota, on Thursday, December 26, with two more road games this week.
ROSEAU, Minn. – The Magicians cured the road trip stiffness with three goals scored in the first period, five in the second and one in the third for the 10-2 win over Lake of the Woods in the first game on the road in Minnesota.
Minot High got onto the scoreboard first in the first quarter with an even strength goal by Finlee Bentz at the 8:15 mark on an assist by Teegan Strand. Less than 15-seconds later, Hudson Cope scored another even strength goal unassisted for the 2-0 lead. At the 10:59 mark, Coen Schmeichel hit goal number three with Oliver Thompson and Easton Panasuk awarded the assists in the 3-0 lead.
Panasuk started the scoring in the second period at the 2:03 mark with Schmeichel and Mackley Morelli with the assists. Strand found the net for the second score just over a minute later for the 5-0 lead on assists by Rylan Roteliuk and Bentz.
Aidan Diehl hit on a power play goal at the 4:55 mark with Morelli getting the assist. Michael Ell scored next on a short handed shot at the 9:48 mark with Cope getting the assist for the 7-0 lead. Just over a minute later, Lake of the Woods found net at the 10:59 mark before Panasuk hit goal number eight with Roteliuk and Morelli on the assists for the 8-1 lead.
Carter Coleman scored the ninth goal of the game to start the third period at the 9:26 mark with Diehl and Oliver Thompson on the assists. Lake of the Woods hit their second goal at 13:12 for their final score. Morelli put the puck into the net for the final score of the game at 15:59 with Roteliuk and Panasuk getting the assists.
Minot High had 53 shots on goal compared to five for Lake of the Woods. Minot High had one penalty in the first, two in the second and one more in the third. Lake of the Woods had two in the second period and one in the third total.
Devon Keller guarded the net for the Magicians and had three saves against the five shots on goal.
Minot High will face the hosting Roseau skaters today and Robbinsdale-Armstrong tomorrow, December 28, to wrap up their three game series in Minnesota.
