Mahmudullah announces retirement from international cricket – India TV News

Veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah has announced his decision to retire from international cricket. He took to social media to announce the decision. The 39-year-old had already retired from Tests in 2021 and T20Is in 2024 and after the Champions Trophy, he opted out of ODI cricket as well.

“I have decided to retire from international cricket,” Mahmudllah wrote on Facebook.
“And finally thanks to my wife and kids who have been my support system through thick and thin. I know Raeid will miss me in red and green jersey,” Mahmudullah wrote, referring to his son. “Not everything comes to an end in a perfect way, but you say yes and move forward. PEACE… Alhamdulillah,” he added.
Notably, the cricketer has scored 11047 runs in 430 international matches. With the ball, the Mymensingh-born has clinched 166 wickets. He has nine centuries to his name in international cricket and has been one of Bangladesh’s biggest match-winners over the last few years.
The cricketer also finished as Bangladesh’s fourth-highest run-getter, behind Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal. Notably, keeper-batter Rahim, who’s also his brother-in-law announced retirement in the last week and Mahmudllah, who opted out of the central contract earlier in the week, decided to call time as well.
Meanwhile, it’s a massive blow for Bangladesh as they are undergoing a transition phase at the moment. Both Shakib and Tamim retired from all formats earlier in the decade and now, Rahim and Mahmudullah also followed suit.

The team had a terrible time in the ODI World Cup and lost to India and New Zealand in the Champions Trophy, while their final league game against Pakistan was called off due to rain.
The debate regarding captaincy has also bothered the team in recent times. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) now have a tough job in handling the young brigade well.
