SEATTLE — Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout left Wednesday’s game at Seattle with a sore left knee.
Trout was taken out ahead of his at-bat in the fourth inning after he tried to leg out a ground ball to second base the inning before. He was replaced by pinch-hitter Jo Adell.
“When it happened, I knew it was like just a weird one,” Trout said after the game, a 9-3 loss to Seattle. “But now, after getting treatment and stuff, I should be a little better soon.”
Trout said he’s hopeful it was merely scar tissue breaking up and added that he plans to try to play Thursday.
During Trout’s at-bat in the third, he sprinted down the line and lunged toward first — and was barely out. He stayed in the game on defense but was pulled the next inning.
Trout has not missed a game this season, appearing in all 29 games, 22 of them in right field.
Trout appeared in 29 games last season before tearing his meniscus and missing the remainder of the season. He’s hitting .173 this season, with nine home runs and 18 RBIs.
    Waddell called up
NEW YORK — Poised to make his first major league appearance in almost four years, left-hander Brandon Waddell was called up by the New York Mets from Triple-A Syracuse to pitch against the Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday night.
Waddell is a former Pirates farmhand who once pitched for the Altoona Curve.
The major league-leading Mets also placed lefty reliever Danny Young on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 27, with a sprained pitching elbow.
    Almost a brawl
BALTIMORE — Benches and bullpens cleared in Baltimore in the fourth inning after Heston Kjerstad of the Orioles stole second base and New York Yankees second baseman Pablo Reyes had to leap over him to catch the throw.
Reyes, a former Pirates farmhand who played for the Altoona Curve, came down on top of Kjerstad’s head and neck area — it appeared the fielder had little choice — and then Kjerstad said something. It wasn’t long before there was a large congregation of players around second base, but the situation de-escalated quickly enough.
Kjerstad was hit on the head last July by a pitch from then-Yankees reliever Clay Holmes, causing benches to clear.
