    Maksim earns sweep in 250 bike class – Escanaba Daily Press

    GWINN — Blustery cold temperatures were no match for the hot racing action on the track at the Neil Armatti Sr. Memorial Raceway in Gwinn here Saturday.
    Lilah Wagner raced her way to a heat and feature sweep in the 50cc bike class. Daniel Stewart raced hard coming from seventh on the feature grid to come home second. Brimley Barto finished third and Jase Kay and Nolan Stewart rounded out the top five.
    Riley Bennett continued to dominate the 85cc bike class with a sixth consecutive heat and feature sweep. Chet Barto finished second and Henry Mallory finished third.
    Jordyn Pelkola had a nice race in the 400-Rubber class as she picked up her first feature win of the season. Caiden Mattonen started fifth on the grid and moved up to second, while Brennon Detiege finished third after starting on the pole position and won the heat race. Jacob Kujala raced his way from a ninth place start to finish fourth and Joey Stankowitz completed the top five. Chase Richer won the other heat race but did not finish the feature as he left with a blown motor.
    Cole Shepard started on the pole in the B-Rubber race and was able to maintain that position as he came away with the feature win as well as a win in heat race action. Derek Pelkola came in second and Tyler Racicot finished third. Detiege finished fourth and Chase Richer rounded out the top five as well as picking up a win in heat race action.
    Ethan Maksim picked up a heat and feature sweep in the 250 bike class over Dominic Heiting.
    Levi Leutz picked up his first win of the season in the A-Rubber class.
    “It felt good to win the A-Rubber race,” Leutz said. “We made some adjustments and it was nice to see that all the work we did paid off.”
    Zack Kavern finished second and Derek Pelkola finished third after starting sixth. Tyler Johnson finished fourth and won the heat race and Richer rounded out the top five.
    Ben Heiting picked up the heat and feature sweep in the C-Rubber class. Cole Shepard came in second and Bobby Davis finished third and won the other heat race. Kujala finished fourth after starting seventh on the grid and Mattonen came from eighth on the grid to finish fifth.
    Kody Peterson took the feature win in the outlaw rubber class. Kavern finished second and won the heat race. Eric Malmsten finished third and Johnson and Hunter Couillard rounded out the top five.
    Leah Luetz picked up the feature win in the Women’s studded race.
    “It was a good weekend for me,” Leah said. “We had motor troubles last week and I was super excited to get back on the track.”
    Melinda Frey finished second and won the heat race. Kelsey Polequin and Christy Fitzgerald rounded out the field.
    Dan Kujala came away with the feature win in the A-Studded class. Tom Johns came in second and won in heat race action. Parker Cain finished third and Dan Woodruff and Mike Palm rounded out the top five.
    In the B-Studded race, Davis came home with the feature win coming from fourth on the starting grid. Couillard finished second and Brandan Krauss finished third and won the heat race. Palm and Lance Kay rounded out the top five.
    In the Outlaw studded race, Dan Kujala came home with the feature win. Johns came in second and won the heat race. Cain and Woodruff rounded out the field.
    Levi Luetz picked up the heat and feature sweep in the C-Studded class. Davis came in second and Jacob Kujala finished third. Krauss and Keith Stone rounded out the top five.
    Trae Nyquist picked up his fifth feature win of the year and third in a row in the 0-50 Rubber class. Oliver Polequin finished second and Myles Dupont finished third. Nolan Stewart came from seventh on the grid to finish fourth and Declan Devries rounded out the top five. Kolt Kay won the heat race but fell to a seventh place finish in feature action.
    The 0-100 Rubber class had Carson Wagner pick up the heat and feature sweep. Abbie Lantagne finished second and Landyn Petroick came in third after starting sixth. Brooklyn Grenier and Landon Harris rounded out the top five.
    The 200cc bike race was full of ups and downs for Maksim as he wrecked in the heat race but came back to get the feature win.
    “It just slipped out on me,” Maksim said. “We went back in and made some tire pressure changes and came back out and took the win in the feature and it feels good to rebound from the mishap in the heat race.”
    Jesse Liss came in second and won the heat race. Ryan Harris finished third and Bryce Dykes and Riley Bennett rounded out the top five.
    The Womens Rubber race had Jordyn Pelkola come away with the heat and feature sweep. Kelli Johnson came in second and Leah Leutz finished third.
    The conditions were very good on the track today,” Leutz said. “Last year we didn’t even have a season because of the weather so it is nice to have the good conditions to get out and race.”
    Andrea Couillard and Lilli Bowling rounded out the top five.
    In the Jr Rubber class Ray Juidici picked up the heat and feature sweep. Jacob Kujala came in second after starting fifth. Leah Leutz came in third and Jordyn Pelkola and Bentley Richer rounded out the top five.
    In the 0-124 modified rubber class, Riley Bower picked up the heat and feature sweep. Landyn Petroick came from eighth on the grid to finish second. Abbie Lantagne came in third and Carson Wagner and Landon Harris rounded out the top five.
    In the A-Bike class Tyler Livingston picked up the heat and feature sweep. Evan Chouinard came in second while Vince Huges and Maskim rounded out the field.
    In the B-Bike class, Chouinard picked up the heat and feature sweep. Maksim came in second and Ryan Harris finished third. Eddie Forslund and Grace Livingston rounded out the top five.
    In the C-Bike class, Tyler Melchiori picked up the feature win. Harris came in second and won the heat race. Grace Livingston finished third and Forslund and Mike Getzloff rounded out the top five.
    In the Outlaw Bike class, Huges took home the feature win over Tyler Livingston but Tyler Livingston won the heat race.
    The 300 Rubber class saw Detiege come away with the feature win. Tyler Johnson finished second. Brandan rae finished third and won the heat race. Joey Stankowitz and Hunter Couillard rounded out the top five.
