The Seattle Mariners are one step closer to getting Eugenio Suarez.
That's because on Friday, the New York Yankees completed a trade for a different third baseman. Colorado's Ryan McMahon is going to the Bronx.
Suarez now has one less suitor.
Seattle has always been a strong darkhorse in the Suarez race because of the farm system. The Mariners have more top-100 prospects than any team in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline.
They can give the Diamondbacks the best offer, if they want to.
Suarez could be worth it, despite playing on an expiring contract.

He already has 36 home runs this season, including five in rapid-fire succession since returning from the All-Star break.
It'd also be a Mariners reunion for Suarez, who played in Seattle in 2022 and 2023.
Teams like the Reds, Tigers and Cubs might still be in the picture, too. But getting the Yankees out of the way is a huge step in the right direction for the Mariners' chances of ending up with Suarez.
