For the Milwaukee Bucks, bad news just keeps getting a bit worse.
On Tuesday, it was revealed that star point guard Damian Lillard was dealing with a problem in his calf caused by a blood clot, which originated with a condition known as deep vein thrombosis.
This is poorly timed, because while Lillard is only out "indefinitely" at this point, it's possible he could miss the remainder of the regular season and into the postseason.
The Bucks are 40-31, which is good for fifth in the East, but the team has already been sliding lately, with a 4-6 record in ther last 10 heading into Wednesday's game against the Nuggets. Losing Lillard, who is the team's No. 2 scorer (24.9 points) and top assist man (7.1), won't help that much.
Now comes news that Giannis Antetokounmpo will need to miss time, too. According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, the Bucks star will be out of the game against Denver.
"Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo (foot sprain) is out tonight vs Denver Nuggets," Haynes wrote on Twitter/X.
The Bucks started the year seemingly in dire straits, with a 2-8 record out of the gate, before rallying behind coach Doc Rivers and pulling themselves back firmly into the Eastern Conference playoff picture.
No doubt, that's because of Antetokounmpo, who is averaging 30.9 points but still, as Rivers said recently, gets overlooked.
“Yeah, I always say now, ‘Is anyone noticing?’ ” Rivers said. “He just keeps getting these numbers, and you just never hear (anything). With MVP, you never hear Giannis’ name. I guess it’s voter fatigue. I don’t know what it is, but he’s ‘Groundhog Day.’ He does it every night, and I guess that’s boring. But not for me.”
