MLB Announces Francisco Lindor News After Mets’ Third Straight Loss originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
For the first time this season, the New York Mets were swept by the Tampa Bay Rays during their three-game weekend series. Before their series against the Rays, New York had won six consecutive games.
Despite their rough stretch against Tampa Bay, the Mets are still 2.5 games ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies for the NL East lead, and they still have the best record in the NL. The Mets will have an opportunity to rebound when they kick off their series on Tuesday night against the Atlanta Braves.
Ahead of Tuesday’s game, the MLB made a big announcement regarding Mets star Francisco Lindor.
Now in his fifth season in New York, Lindor is continuing to solidify himself as one of the best shortstops in the MLB. He earned a Silver Slugger award in each of the last two seasons, and he earned MVP votes in each of his last three seasons. This includes finishing as the runner-up for the award last season.
Despite his overall success, the Puerto Rico native has not made an All-Star appearance since 2019. However, that could change this year as the MLB announced on Monday that Lindor is the leading All-Star vote-getter for shortstops in the NL with 1,019,273 votes.
This season, Lindor is batting .279 at the plate and has recorded an OPS of .828. Additionally, he has hit 14 home runs and recorded 38 RBIs in 70 games this season.
In addition to his individual success, Lindor is a big reason the Mets own the best record in the NL. As they look to remain atop the standings the rest of the way, the Mets will continue to rely on Lindor, who could be in line for his first All-Star appearance since joining the team.
