MLC 2025: Extraordinary Scenes As Faf Du Plessis Retires Out On 91 – Cricket.com

Extraordinary scenes unfolded in Lauderhill, Florida, in the MLC 2025 clash between Texas Super Kings (TSK) and Seattle Orcas (SO) today as TSK skipper Faf du Plessis retired out on 91, nine away from what would have been the third hundred of the season for him.
Du Plessis, who has been in red-hot form in MLC 2025, looked set for another three-figure score as he raced to 84* off just 43 balls in the 15th over, taking down the Seattle bowlers with ease. However, from that point onwards, he only managed 7 runs off his next 9 balls across the next four overs. 
After a sequence which read 0 0 1 1 1 1 1 0 2, du Plessis retired out before the start of the 20th over though he was in his 90s and just nine runs away from hammering the ninth ton of his T20 career.
Du Plessis retired out to pave way for the in-form Donovan Ferreira, but it didn’t matter much as Ferreira only managed 3 off the 3 balls he faced before being cleaned up.
However, TSK ended up comfortably winning the clash, bowling out Seattle for 137 after putting up 188/4 in their 20 overs. As it turned out, du Plessis was named Player of the Match. 
Astonishingly enough, du Plessis’ retirement was not even the first of the day as earlier, in the clash between LAKR and MINY, Unmukt Chand retired out on 59* off 48 balls. LAKR endured a bad defeat as they fell short by 6 runs in pursuit of 143. Chand, like du Plessis, retired out before the final over.
