Multan Sultans finally got off the mark in PSL 2025 with a 33-run win over Lahore Qalandars in Match 12 at the Multan Cricket Stadium on April 22. After posting a commanding 228, Multan’s bowlers held their nerve, with Ubaid Shah grabbing 3/37 and Joshua Little sealing the deal with a tight final over that gave away just four runs and included the wicket of Haris Rauf. Despite a fighting unbeaten 50 off 27 balls from Sikandar Raza, Lahore never seriously challenged the steep target. The win gave Multan their first points of the season.
Haris Rauf delivers a short ball, taking the pace off, and the batter goes for a big shot. It skies high into the air, and Yasir, positioned at backward square leg, makes no mistake, taking a well-judged catch to send the batter packing.
Ubaid strikes again with a crucial wicket! He bowls a back-of-length delivery just outside off, and the batter goes for a big shot. However, he mishits it, with the ball getting high on the bat and traveling in the air. Kamran Ghulam at cover takes a straightforward catch. Billings pauses as the umpire checks for a potential short ball. The replay confirms it wasn’t short, and the batter has to walk back.
A back-of-length delivery on middle stump from Little, and Billings plays another cracking pull shot, placing it perfectly in the gap to deep midwicket, racing away to the fence for four more.
Welcome back, the Lahore Qalandars are all set to begin their chase, with Mohammad Naeem and Zaman at the crease. Willey starts off with a full ball on off stump to Naeem, who leans into it beautifully and drives it past mid-off for a glorious four. In the very next delivery, Willey pitches it on leg stump to Zaman, and it’s a leg bye as the ball glances off his pad and rolls away.
The Multan Sultans have posted a formidable target of 229 runs for Lahore Qalandars to chase. Yasir Khan provided a blazing start, smashing 87 runs off 44 balls, including 6 fours and 6 sixes, setting the tone early. Iftikhar Ahmed finished strongly, adding 40 runs off 18 balls, with 3 fours and 3 sixes, helping Sultans to close their innings with a commanding total.
Yasir Khan falls just short of a century. Sikandar Raza tosses it up on leg stump, and Yasir goes for the big slog sweep. He gets a top edge, sending it high into the air. Abdullah Shafique runs to his left, dives, and takes a brilliant catch. Yasir Khan is out for 87, missing out on his well-deserved 100.
Usman Khan goes for the reverse sweep to a delivery tossed up just outside off by Rishad Hossain, but he ends up hitting it straight into the hands of Asif Afridi at short third man. Afridi takes a clean catch to dismiss Khan.
Yasir Khan, nearing a century, goes back to a short-length delivery and drives it hard to deep cover. Raza charges in from his right, diving full-length to save a couple of runs. Khan moves to 85, just few runs away from his landmark.
Rizwan goes for the sweep as the ball is tossed up on leg stump, but the pace is taken off. He misses the timing and the ball strikes the inner part of the bat, deflecting onto the stumps behind his legs. A much-needed breakthrough for the Qalandars.
Yasir Khan is turning it on in Multan. Zaman Khan oversteps to start the over and pays a heavy price, Yasir pounces on the full delivery, driving it elegantly over mid-off for four.
The no-ball brings a free hit, and Yasir makes it count in style. Zaman goes full again, this time on middle, but Yasir is locked in, he reads the length early and launches it over midwicket for a towering six. Back-to-back blows, and the pressure shifts hard onto Lahore.
Shaheen Shah Afridi bangs it in short on middle and leg, and Yasir Khan goes for the pull. He doesn’t quite catch it clean, gets a top edge, but it flies safely over short fine leg and races away to the boundary. Fortune favours Yasir early on.
Game on in Multan! Mohammad Rizwan and Yasir Khan stride out to open for the Sultans, with Shaheen Shah Afridi steaming in to kick things off for Lahore Qalandars.
First ball, and it’s a wayward start, Shaheen goes wide outside off, and it’s called wide. He follows that up with a back-of-length delivery on middle and leg, which Yasir calmly turns to the leg side for a quick single to get off the mark.
Next up, it’s Rizwan’s turn. Shaheen misses his line again, full and straying onto leg stump. Rizwan needs no second invitation, he flicks it fine, racing it away past the keeper for four. Early momentum for Multan.
